Spybot S&D - Dell w2000 won't open in normal mode

On my W2000 Dell laptop, I downloaded a peer-to-peer app that placed some adware on my hd. I ran the latest Ad-Aware app to delete them, but it didn't work adequately. The I ran "SpyBot Search and Destroy" and I found 5000 problems. I clicked 'fix these' and then left. I came back and I now have this on my screen:

'DOS prompt' (black box) bouncing around my screen like a screen saver. This 'DOS prompt' box switches between these two 'title bars' above a black box:

c:\winnt\system32\ntvdm.exe
c:\winnt\system32\command.com

My normal desktop does not open. Able to open in Safe Mode.

I cannot type in the 'dos prompt.' Windows 2000 opens fine, login works, but then I get the 'fake' dos prompt box.

Btw, I did get this message that system needs:
windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

However, I do h have that file listed, as well as the 2 others above listed in the C: drive. I wanted to run RegCure, but I could not get the start button because my (10-yr old Dell) laptop's Safe Mode is 640x480 and I cannot get to the start button. The RegCure interface does not have a scroll bar. I did run Wise Registry Cleaner, didn't seem to do much.

Can you please help my Dell to start up normal and healthy again? Thx.
