Just another reason....

I recently needed advice very quickly to kind of hide myself online and make me look like I was out of town (that makes sense?) I am handicapped and spend a lot of time online, which leaves a trail.
I had a bad situation recently where I was protecting a very physically abused young woman and her two tiny ones (also bruised and terrified I am sorry to say), and the person who was hurting her had sufficient knowledge to know my online habits. He knew she would come to me, and we needed a short period of time where I needed to look like I was AWAY, and I was in a panic and couldn't remember how to set my email to cover that shadow game. I don't have a car, he couldn't watch that, my apt is not easy to get to or see, but he COULD find me online. I am handicapped and conduct my business and my social business on the 'puter. He had good reason to know all this, cuz I sold him my old system and taught him everything, conducted business through him et al.
So, of course, I called on the majors. And they came through. Tonight the young lady is recovering, on the other side of the country with family, her little ones are with her, and I know for a fact the perpertrator tried to track her through emailing me and checking the online sites he knew I frequented.
One PFC stood up and helped me out, and here is, as they say "the rest of the story"
All you people have helped me awesomely in practical matters, saved me time and money, chatted and been good majors in arms. But in this instance, you went above and beyond the call and helped a little family to have security, safety and peace of mind. I just want all of you to know the rare breed of people that populate our little community here. Even if I could have done it without you, I could not have done it without the sincere goodwill that was given to me through this site, in this emergency. I hope you all sleep well tonight, and carry on in this great manner. Thank you.

 

What a horrible / wonderful story. Nice it all worked out, on the other hand, watch your back so to speak.
When revenge is all they are left with no telling who the target may be.

This jamoke went on to other things- trashed the (sweet) house they were renting, punched holes in the walls, and the owners said to me "Oh, we had to tear up all the carpet, the dog had urinated all over it, and it was left to sit, the hardwood floor is now all stained...." My reply was that they DIDN'T OWN a dog... owners called police, police pursuing disgusting idiot who has many hearings pending his "good behavior." Fortunately he will be too busy watching his OWN back, but I would dearly love to have just one more face-to-face- people like that never meet you to your face, so- its a small town the local PD are good to me because they are hardworking kids, and former military personnel. I AM very grateful for your caring concern. He did seek me out once since this, from behind, but evidently one woman on a cane (though I am 5'10 and NOT petite, alas) waving a cellphone was too intimidating for him. I didn't want to USE the cellphone, I wanted to BEAN him with it! My younger life has given me some cachet with some hard people, so even my BIG MOUTH has been a bit protected from his big fists. But your point is well taken- weak people are bullies, and bullies who feel they are losing hit from behind, Or pee on carpets, what a waste...

 

Seconding darlene's comment here: Watch your back. Cornered rats fight dirty, and even more when they know they have nothing to lose.

Kudos on you for sticking your neck out when that woman needed help though, regardless of the risks to yourself. That somehow seems rare these days, and it's good to see that there still are people out there who actively try to help each other.
