I have installed 2 new HD's on my PC and on restart they both show as found by the new hardware wizard.

I cannot find them in My Computer to format them although they show up in Device manager.

    OS is win XP x64

    Any help appreciated.

    Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Disk Management (xp)
    Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management (Vista)

Right click and format the new drive from there and you should be good to go.

Not sure if this is still an issue in Vista, I don't think so, I would hope not, lol.

Thanks for the effort but I've been there and cannot format the discs from there as they just appear as unallocated and are not accessable.

I'm thinking of formatting them in another PC but I just don't see why.

you've double checked and jumper issues?

You might have to 'Mark Partition as Active' before trying to format. If you can see them in BIOS (if the hardware wiz found them I'm sure you can) you should be able to get them integrated into the system from the disk management tool. Beyond that I'm afraid I can't help.

Yes I've checked them but, I was able to right click on the drive and select "Partition" and and after a restart go back to admin tools and they are now formatting. I'll get back shortly to let you know if they are now recognised in My Coputer as useable.

You put me on the right track even though what you said didn't work , but a point in the right direction is how we all learn.

You have my thanks and I'll get back if the format is successful (I think it will have to be) so that anyone else with the same problem can sort it.

Cheers m8Back soon with the results.

    As Promised back with reply.

All OK and up and running. Thanks for the help.

I've only just gone on to X64 system and still getting my head around some slight differences in the OS even though I'm still sticking to Win XP.

    syco-Good advice TA!
