I'm still trying to figure out the quickest, and very safe way to back up all my data from Outlook 2007, such as Contacts, Calendar, etc. to both and external hard drive and to a DVD. Does anyone know how go about this?

    Hi

I tend to use this free add-on Personal Folders Backup tool ( just a bit more powerful a tool than the manual export option in that it has the option to set a reminder )

If using an external HD then you can set the backup directory folder ot the external drive, but would just then need for backup to DVD to use your favored burning app to burn the .pst from the backup folder )

I very much appreciate all your help and patience. I hate to admit this, but now I have another issue where I can't seem to get this program to download and install. Two different error messages appear. One says I already have this installed and need to uninstall it, which I have done several times and still no success. Any clues?

For some reason the images with the error messages aren't being displayed so I am including hyperlinks too.

    Hi MT

Just check that you dont have it already installed, its not native to Outlook 2007 so would nto have been installed defaulty. Also if your antivirus application has email scanning, then disable it for now as it may not like Add-ins.

Open Outlook and click File and see if backup is listed as in mine below..

What you could do as some do have issues running this ( your not on an Exchange Server are you as this app wont work ) is to download the pfbackup.exe file or as you likely have it already, use 7Zip to extract the files from that download so you have Launcher.exe and pfbackup.msi ( or I have uploaded the extracted files here for you do download the 2 files contained in the folder )

Double click to install the pfbackup.msi file and follow the prompts.

Open Outlook 2007 and choose Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins from the list on the left side, then at the bottom of the Add-ins screen, under Manage, select COM Add-ins and click GO.

    You should see this box
    http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9105/11573801og7.jpg

Click Add on the COM add ins box and navigate to this location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\ADDINS then select outbak.dll and click OK.

Close the box and close Outlook then re-open *fingers x'd* its ok.

Note: you can remove addins from that location too, so its its listed already, check its ticked as that means its live, or click remove to remove it and re-install.

Thanks very much indeed for the help. I got all the way down to the last part about re-opening Outlook.

I tried to post my screen shots, but the method I normally used didn't work. Don't why it didn't but that's why there were 4 red X blocks. I finally just uploaded the shots to the free pic hosting site, then inserted as hyperlinks.

Not only do I truly appreciate your help today, but also for all the other times you have helped me.

It has now become imperative for me to know the full 2007 Suite as well as I can, in as short order as possible. The same applies for Vista Ultimate. Long, long story but where I work the budget was cut so much that for the rest of us remaining we each need to have a specialty. Mine is to be the first line of "tech support" for my office.

I need to become certified in Vista and the Office Suite. Not a certification as system admin, but whatever the first level is. I got a quite a few books which honestly have confused me more than helped me.

In your opinion, do you think a good idea would be for me to just online to the MS Tutorials and simply walk through the lessons for each MS app?
Is there more than one MS Tutorial site? I swear, one last question for now.
How do you get the MVP certification??

    Thanks so much again.

I seriously hope in the future to become a more valuable participant on this site by truly helping others more consistantly -- not just getting help myself.

Very likely the code for adding images from Photobucket or if a direct link may not work, so best is as you did copy the url, but you can also add the forums vB code tages to the urls in http://the image url and that will make an image live, I use imagshack hosting as it has code already for forums.

I would say some of the dummies guides to Office 2007 are good for books to start with them migrate to the individual indepth books on each app, the online help and the training tutorials are good but the tutorials are aimed at beginners to intermediates, so once you get to needing to know advanced stuff then likely a training course (paid) is likely best route, always best to have someone talk you through the apps.

Yes I would start with the MS online tutorials as they are a good beginning point and do go through each one at a time, I stiff refer back to them at times as I cannot remember everything, plus Access is my weak point, so getting more training on that soon in work.

Some basic free tutorials here including a Vista set, but the Vista one is aimed more for anyone whos not used any Windows based PC before, so not aimed at your level.

sadly their are many links if you search for many a alledged free tutorial site on word but many are basic and not as good as the Microsoft Office tutorials TBH.

Sadly not that I know of there is one other site I know of with good MSFT Office tutorials + a Vista set of basics, but sadly unless you work for UK Gov Health dept you wont get access, lucky me works for them.

Well need to be nominated by another MVP or seen by some MSFT employees, on the MSFT newsgroups or giving great feedback and comments in beta testing via MS Connect, plus doing work in communities like Majorgeeks and in local community tech groups etc or combination of all of those. Some FAQs on the MVP Program

I can imagine already you have knowledge that will help others and joining in only increases this over time, I learn new things when I get time to read many of the threads that are not my general area of expertise.

Thanks again very much indeed for all your help my friend.
It is very interesting that you mentioned the health department. I currently work for the Health Department for local government in the State of Maryland.
Some day I would like to see the UK. Although I am not good at genealogy, my grandparents did a lot of research, and found that many or our ancestors are from various places in the UK.

    Hi MT

    My pleasure.

See if your dept has Home User Program or ties with Microsoft for software as thats what we have and Microsoft UK developed that homepage dedicated to us, due to the vast amounts of software we licence.

Yep on the image, you now with using imagshack dont need to add any manual tags as they are built into the link.
