I still had the common box open on startup with the helper files present.

So I continued to follow that thread (hoping now that I didn't mess up by not posting the logs before I did)

I ran the combofix with the info saved in the quote to CFscript.txt and the fixme.reg info.

The reg entry was sucessful. Now here is where I messed up, my kids were fighting I tried to continue this before going to referee and I accidently restarted before renaming the helper files. So the common box was present on start up again. I followed the combofix and fixme again, renamed the files .dll to .ddd and .sig to .sss and upon reset I still have the common box open on start up with the renamed files present.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Browser Helper Object - {AFD4AD01-58C1-47DB-A404-FBE00A6C5486} - C:\Program Files\Common\helper.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thank You!
& Bless you!!! I had been trying to get rid of that Messenger since my nephew was here for Christmas. I thought I had gotten rid of it and didn't run that part but after you pointed that out I do remember it popping up out of no where that week (I changed his font to a pink frilly script).

I didn't catch J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 in the uninstall malware list; sorry

It took me a bit again to find Viewpoint Media Player in the uninstall - after I clicked on the links in the malware list, I found it (that could be my vision problems but I thought I would throw that in incase it showed up by clicking the link - I did check 3 times for it before clicking the link).

    I have started MGtools\analyse.exe I still can't find

    CO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe"

in the list. I wanted to make sure that is alright before fixing the others - since I just previously unistalled it. I also noticed some other things I would like gone and wondered if I can just do that at the same time

    3 entries for
024 Desktop Compontent 0-2: (No Name) http://www. (etc)

    and
    023 - Service: DVD-RAM_service - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. - C:\Windows\System32\DVDRAMSV.exe
(I had trouble with my Matshita drive recognizing burnt discs, a fix I found caused 2 boxes for dvdramsv to open on start up which is still happening. - can I delete this to make it stop?)

    Thanks!!!

I am probably your worst nightmare, but I punted. I checked the ones you listed minus
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe"
and the ones I wanted gone also.

    View attachment combofix.4log.txt

fixme.reg successfully entered into the registry.

    View attachment MGlogs.zip

On restart, the Common folder does not open (Thank you!!) and isn't present in my program files either.

Norton is now bugging me that it is not the default phishing filter. No other messages present.

    You're welcome.

They are not there anymore and based on what I saw in the first set of logs, they looked like things the owner/user put there.

Unknown. This service may be required for your drive to work properly. This is a topic for the Software or Hardware forums.

You will have to change the settings unless it does it automatically.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combo-fix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
