Do I need a router, if I ONLY have ONE computer? Is the Windows XP firewall reliable? If I do not have a router.....what is my best defense. I have:
    AVG Anti-Malware security Suite
    Spybot
    Spywareblaster
    Advanced windowscare
I am used to using a router but the one I have is causing me issues(too old) and I am getting conflicting info: I need a router, I don;'t need one. XP firwall is good enough...and so on. I need reliable info. Thank you

Dlb-it would be great if you could answer this--you were so helpful too me a while back...and I am unable to PM you because I don't have 50 posts yet.:)

You don't "need" one, but it provides an added layer of security if you do use one.

    Absolutely not!

Whether you have a router or not, you need to do what is in the below link. You need an antivirus program, realtime antispyware blocking, and a real true bi-directional firewall (all of which you imply you have with AVG Internet Security . At least I assume you mean this: AVG Internet Security since this is the real name) and the other tips in the below will also help you..
