I'm going to France for 2 weeks at the beginning of August. One week will be spent at a house we're renting and the latter at some hotels where I'm hoping they have internet.

So does anyone have a suggestion of what I can do to get internet for the first week? I'll need it for 1-2 hours a day because I run a few websites which require daily updates.

I think I can afford to spend £50-£80 on the internet for that week and only 1-2 hours a day. I can get it on my iPhone but that's just for e-mail checking and stuff because it has its limitations.

There are these mobile broadband sticks but all of them come with a subscription £30-£40 a month and I don't need them except for maybe this time and furthermore, the 'roaming' international rates would not be included.

Is there like a card or something I can buy temporarily or how would you manage? Is there something like a pay as you go alternative on the market in France that's not too expensive?

Internet cafes? Usually cost a couple of euros for an hour or so.

    Hi

Check with the hotels your staying in if they have WiFi or Ethernet cabled internet, many hotels have either or both, as McA said many internet cafes around in major cities and towns, plus some towns have WiFi.

I use JWire to check for free hotspots, pop this url into your iPhone.

Internet cafes.. yeah, I was afraid that might be my only option and it's not something I'd like to be doing really as it's not very convenient. And thanks for that website, Halo... should be useful in the future.

The hotels I'm staying at will have internet but that's only in my second week. I thought there might be a pay as you go card or something to buy in shops in France to get wireless access for the first week when we're renting the house, like the mobile broadband ones in the UK but without the subscription. I'll look for these once I get there but haven't got much hope.

Not all of them ;). At least Three offers also mobile broadband for their Pay as You Go customers. However, the data roaming rates for France are pretty expensive though: http://www.three.co.uk/personal/help_support_/abroad_/pay_as_you_go_country_details.omp?cid=31444
