First, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this, but it seemed okay.

I am trying to send mail using mail.charter.net in Windows mail in Windows Vista. I can check if I have new messages and receive just fine, but not send. So my problem has to be with my POP3. I get the following error:

Subject 'Re: health', Account: 'mail.charter.net', Server: 'smtp.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command HELO kcpc', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC60

    kcpc it the computer's name.

    Servers:
    POP3- mail.charter.net
    SMTP- smtp.cahrter.net

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks, I got it to work again. I did put a typo in there, "smtp.cahrter.net", but that wasn't really what it was set to. ><

Can you share with us what you discovered the solution to be?

Never mind, I thought I had it. I checked all of the server info, and it is correct. Is it possible that it is a fault on Charter's end?

    So, still not working, right?

You might try using 587 instead of 25 for the port # for SMTP. It's what I'm using with my ISP for outgoing mail and I know it's being used now for SMTP by other ISP's.

    Protocol: POP3
    Port:
Secure(SSL): Yes <<< think this is your problem

Yours is "No" my ISP sends a warning prior to blocking you, but yours is just blocking you.

Right click Account > Properties > Servers (tab); Outgoing Mail Server and check the box "My server requires authentication - then click Settings (right next to the box you just checked) Account name should be your email address.

Email User name is your full email address; for example, if you are a charterinternet customer, it will be: username@charterinternet.com

So I tried turning ISP secure, but no luck. I also tried changing my POP3 port to 587. I got the following error when I changed my port:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: health', Account: 'mail.charter.net', Server: 'smtp.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
