    rolleyes

I haven't gotten more than a few pages in this book that I bought before realizing that I may not finish it (or start it really).

    Here is a sentence:

"Inside the OSDeck, all the ice wakes up: each ice processor comes online, runs the software attached to it, and talks to the deck for its interface with the outside world."

Um...wtf? Can someone translate that for me? I actually looked up 'ice' in relation to computers and all I saw was an acronym 'ICE'.

    Oh, nevermind.rolleyes

I've read enough where it seems to be his own made up name for something I have this vague idea of what it might be, but for the life of me would never be able to explain.

People should put glossaries in their books if they are going to make up their own techobabble.

My wife hates it when we're watching a show/movie that involves some sort of IT scene, and I start busting out with the "bull$#@t's"

The link to the IETF Journal on ICE - read first before reading the ICE Tutorial is enough to reach for a couple of Tylenol Extra Strength.

nah, actually, once you get past that page and sort of have some remote inkling of what he's talking about, it gets a little more normal. For now.

Well, I did follow that page you posted.
Are you going to post the book page by page? LOL

I may even have to make a trip to the library to see if they have it.
    Sounds interesting.

Are you gloating, you gloater. Care to share?

    k...this is my take...

'ice' are the processes that run the different functions or programs and they are almost sentient (not the word, but they run on their own mostly).

    ???

lol...I will if I need them translated. You may miss a few pertinent pages though where I actually understand it. ;)

I'll send it to you when I'm done if you really want to read it. :) I probably would have sold it for a pittance on ebay anyway.

Not at all, I never gloat. (unless it is at my wife) LOL

That's what I got, too. But, you would have to configure them to do your bidding.

    Don't hurt yourself. :p
In a simple way, it's like a Yahoo "My Yahoo" page, where you tell it the types of things you want displayed and it searches for, finds 'em, and displays 'em..

That makes perfect sense and sounds completely fair to me.

In conclusion, the book turned out to be pretty damn entertaining. I'm pretty sure it was technically accurate where it should have been. It was set about 25 yrs in the future, so the guy took some liberties with that.

And guess what I found at the back of the book (a few pages in from the back I might add, since I looked for the damn thing).....a GLOSSARY.:eek:rolleyes:-D < all at once.

So, I would recommend it to anyone who likes techno cyberpunk sci fi. lol...really really techno.
