MSN Messenger can't install

Hello:

I would like to install MSN messenger, 5.0 for Windows ME. I still have a WIN ME o/s and the computer is working great.

However, a error code 1603 keeps coming up whenever I try to install.

I have a cable virus/spyware/firewall set up to monitor my system.

Any suggestions welcomed.

It is not in my add/remove programs.

Having no luck. Error code 1603 keeps coming up.

Any other suggestions welcomed. So frustrating.:mad

I even tried shutting off my antispyware program.

Thanks Halo. No luck. The Windows Installer cleanup tool will not load on my system. I have even disabled my firewall and virus protection. I also had the MSN messenger on a swap and tried to download from this, all 5 version to choose from.

It is so frustrating as I want to chat with a friend in the USA. Any thoughts?

Furthermore, you are getting the error code 1603 when you try to install MSN Messenger is that the system temp directory is not clean and may contain files that conflict with the setup files. Therefore, we may have to reregister and reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer files. Moreover, since you are using Windows 98 ME the compatible version of Messenger that you can download and install is MSN Messenger 7.0.
