What a day I am having. Supposed to be starting my online orientation class today, but didn't have Microsoft Word 2007 yet, so II drove to the bookstore at the college and bought it.
Got home and put it in my drive and get the message
"the language of this installation package is not supported by your system."

I have no idea what to do.
I am running Windows XP SP3

Any help would be dearly appreciated.

    Thanks

What language is your Windows XP installation?

What language is the MS Word installation?

As far as I know, both are English. Outside of cd I just bought says Office Enterprise 2007 Win32 English Disk Kit CD

Copy the disk to a folder on your hard drive. Then try to install from there, please.

As I am trying to copy it, I get a message saying Windows encountered an error when trying to copy this folder. What do you want windows to do? Folder is Access.en-us

Sounds like you have a defective, or scratched/dirty disk.

That or your drive is dirty.

That's what i was afraid of. After I drove 55 miles there and 55 miles back to get it.

I will try cleaning drive, as cd looks good. Maybe I'll get lucky and it is just dirty

Not for the timid, but I have bought myself extra time by spraying compressed air into the inside of the CD/DVD drive.

Also try installing from Safe Mode? Sounds simple but can cure the simplest of things

You need the windows installer to install Office, which doesn't run in Safe Mode unless you perform a little registry wizardry.

Well, I am thinking it is the dvd drive. I now can't get it open. I have even tried the paper clip and all it does is make nasty sound.
Waiting for my husband to see if he can somehow get it open. if not, I guess I'll have to take it in,

On another note, if I do get the cd out, I am going to try it on my laptop. That way I will know for sure if it is the cd or the drive.
A question.......I can install it legally on both a laptop and a desktop right?
I will be working on the desktop, but will bring the laptop with me on the days I do have to go to the school.

As long as its a retail copy, yes you can legally install on both.

I bought it at the college book store and have a Product key for it.

It is installing right now on my laptop, so it is the drive on my desktop. Hubby is trying to clean it out now for me.
    Thanks for the help.

Want a secret on how to install it on your desktop?

Make the laptop optical drive shared, and map it to the desktop. You can install from there!

    Takes forever though.

Hubby cleaned out whole computer for me, including the cd/dbd drive it still will not work on the desktop.

I don't know how to do what you are suggesting Adrynalyne. Wish I did.
It shouldn't matter that desktop is XP and laptop is Vista should it?

    No, it shouldn't.

I will put together a tutorial for ya later, if thats ok. Currently in the middle of repairing a laptop (hard disk died).

I decided this morning to have a new drive put in. Got home with it, tried installing, and still getting the same message. Could it be I have some settings wrong on my computer? It must be something with that computer since it installs on the laptop.

PS. Right now desktop is back at pcguy as it has a thermal problem now and shut down right after I tried installing the software.

At that point, yeah--there is probably some software issues going on there. Look me up when you get it back.

    First, do a chkdsk.

Right click your hard disk and choose properties. Go to the tools tab.

I ran the chdisk and once that was done, I tried to run the cd again. Still have error, and, now the new drive won't open. I am having my daughter take it back in again.
I am so frustrated. Is it the drive, software issues, or as the pcguy seems to think, a virus?

    Well....stop taking it back!

You aren't giving me enough time to look at it, LOL.

I am sorry. Because I am supposed to be doing this online orientation I guess I don't have patience, and just thought I was out the money for a new drive I didn't need. My daughter just called me and the guy is putting my old drive back in and refunding some of my money to me. he said the reason it wsn't opening the drive was because it was still trying to install even with the error
    I still will have a software/settings problem.

New day. I was having other problems with the desktop once I got it back, but i think I have them fixed now. At least, computer is running...

I am still getting the error "language of this installation package is not supported by your system"
I have tried googling it, but I can't seem to find any help.
It installed fine on my laptop, which is running Vista. My desktop is XP. I tried turning off firewall and installing it, but that doesn't help either.
The reason my drvie wouldn't open was because something was running still trying to install it. (According to the guy I took it too). He said he had never seen this error before.

    Ok.

Do you have any other versions of Office installed? Is the drive working now, aside from the error?

  27. gal1998

    gal1998 solo-cob

No other version is installed. I went through add/remove programs and also did a search for any Microsoft word and found nothing. Ran Ccleaner just to make sure as I did remove some other programs.

The drive works fine now, just still the error

Got an error the first time I ran it, but was fine after I restarted computer. The only thing I see even close is a Slideshow Generator Powertoy for Windows XP
    Nothing that says Office

    Hi Gal

You dont have any trials of Office 2007 install or had installed on your PC do you?

At what point does it hit you with that message, right as soon as the CD is popped in the drive or when you run the default installer, if you can try a custom install and choose the applications you need try with just Word only to start, and red X the others, can go back and install them later.

If you have had any trial of Office 2007 on the PC then this may help http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=928218 or even just check that you've not gained a partial install and some component is blocking you.

Do you have any other Office versions installed, not that that should cause 2007 to fail.

  37. gal1998

I get the error as soon as I put the cd in.

No, I don't have any Office installed. This computer is about 3 years old now. I had it built,XP Home, so didn't come with any of those trials. I did the check Adryalyne had me do, and there was a list of things, but nothing with Office in them. My daughter did put her Office 2003 on here about a year ago. Her computer was down and needed to use it for her school work, She didn't register it and then uninstalled it right away, and any remnants should be gone.

    Hi Gal

Ok so its autorunning, can you close the error then open up the actual contents of the CD? using My Computer > right click the CD drive with Office in and choose Open?

If you have any files in this folder delete them C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA but not the folder itself.

Then if so, can you run the setup file direct and make sure your in the admin account on XP before doing this.

also if you have any security programs running disable them ( especially Spybot S&D ) as they can hinder an install.

  39. gal1998

    gal1998 solo-cob

Yes, I can open the contents of the cd.
There was one file in that folder and I deleted the file.
    I stopped all anti virus
I then tried to run setup.exe directly. I am the only user on the computer and I am the admin.
I still get the same error. But, this time the cd would not eject. I had to manually eject it out.

    Hi Gal

If you without any antivirus apps etc try again like Adryn mentiones copy the contents of the DVD ( it is a DVD is it as my Enterprise versions on DVD? ) or CD if its a CD to your C: Drive?

If that errors again one option I can think of but would need an External HD or very large USB pen is to copy the Office CD contents to your laptop HD and then copy them to USB or External HD as we know this CD works with your laptop... then copy the files to your Desktops HD and run from their as it seems as if the CD Drive is the issue.

Or do you have another CD/DVD drive you can use or borrow to test if indeed your CD Drive is faulting?

On the disk is says dvd, but I do have 2 dvd drives. I have tried it on both.

I have just about given up. I have been using my laptop for the school work because I have to have two more chapters done by tomorrow, so I might just forget this and get a new desktop just for my schoolwork.

As a last thing to try, unplug one of the DVD drives and try again, then if not work then swap with other drive on its own, curious as to the cause as the common issues with that error message we have ruled out.

Now you are asking me to do something I don't know how to do. They are both built right into the computer and hardware is something I know nothing about. (That's why I take it in for that) lol

ON a side note, when Ii complete my schooling, I should know all that
