Someone told me that Email was free. I just looked online: 50MB OF INTERNET USE! I called Customer Support, and he said that it would have cost my dad $516.48!!! He waived the fee becuase it was done unintentionally. He signed me up for an internet package starting yesterday and ending tommarrow which cost me $1.93 instead of $516.48. And he signed me up for a texting plan which I thought I already had. I checked online, only my mom had texting.

You expect us to believe that you racked up over 500 dollars in bandwidth fees in 24 hours...on a phone?

    Riiight.

Because we all thought you were 30 before you said you were 13?

Don't worry, you're still older than my kids. ;)

    Oh I see.

You had 50mb of usage, not a plan that allowed 50mb of usage.

Read the contract next time, you got lucky.

I didn't have any plan. A customer service rep said it was free. Imma report him later.

Have your parents call. It will add more credence to your claim. Otherwise, they will brush you off, especially since you cannot enter a legal binding contract, which means your phone is under Mod and/or Dad's account. They won't listen to what you have to say.

Definitely do. Even more effective is have them go into a store and complain or talk to someone. It's face to face so it's almost impossible to get blown off or have them sidestep your request. Unless the person working there is a real ***.

See? Why would anyone give a child a cell phone??

I guess theres no way I can say this without sounding mean, but I can't picture you have that many friends, dawg, because you never get the hell offline. What the hell do you need a cell for?

I got to the end of the post and then realised he was talking about a mobile phone. Though he was on about internet on a pc....

Why use the internet on a phone? It's slow, not as good and just a waste of time.

I have no kids, so I'll just go ahead and compare you to other 13-year-olds.

Rethinking that thing where it sends you a message every time someone replies to a thread, are you? LOL

You got VERY lucky, and you've learned a valuable lesson (as have your parents, hopefully). NOTHING in life is free, or without strings attached. Especially cell phone plans. I cannot believe your parents did not look into what was included in the plan before letting you use the phone. Suddenly a few more things become crystal clear...

Ok. Now that we have all got it out of our system, we know how old zdawg is. We know he is a child, and we have said our piece.

Lets stop the crap talking towards him and treat him with a little dignity, ok? I will delete any further attacks.

Fact of the matter is, and I think we all lost sight of this, it is against the forum rules to bully or harass someone.

That is why I mentioned in your other thread on the phone to read up on what plan your on as some Pre-Paid plans do not come witht he free extras as personal or business plans come with, so have AT&T list everything your plan comes with, then if needed the extras like data, text etc check price per month or KB.

I even tripple checked my data plan and good job as roaming data is an extra ( can get a bold on that is not expensive ) cost for me being in other countries other than UK, which all data, internet is free, pays to research these things and not jump in.

Zdawg we all were 13 at one time and made mistakes. I ran up a huge phone bill because I thought the next town was a local call - not! You caught your mistake before it became a problem, so you're smarter than me at your age.

I understand the $10 thing now and sorry for my inappropriate comment before. If you're still interested in a used PC try the local recycling center, that's were most around here take them and you might get lucky.

    Happy PC Hunting,

My mom seems to have a knack for finding computers at low prices. They usually need work, though. She goes to thrift stores, etc. Sometimes she gets them from friends who don't need them anymore. She found a Pentium 3 early this year for $8. It had no hard drive, and took some work to get going. It only had 128MB RAM, and came as just the main unit: no keyboard, mouse, or display. She once got a whole system, including manuals, most system software, and printer for $10, though still no hard drive. People like to remove and destroy the hard drive for security reasons. I think the most my parents have paid for a computer is around $100-120 for the whole system. They are not the newest, of course, but they work.

Thanks Adryn. I think we all forget that from time to time. Both the part about the forum rules, and the fact that we've all been a lot younger and more stupid... And yeah, I'm primarily talking about myself here. :)

zdawg, if your parents try to give you any crap about this, remind them you caught the mistake before it became a disaster. That really should count in your favor ;)

I've done stuff like that in the past. It's all too easy nowadays to be sucked into something you're led to think is good :). If your parents give you heck, at least you'll know you figured out the problem and worked to resolve it, instead of pretending you didn't cause it in the first place (that route never works out well :-D).

That's what my mom said. I didn't tell my dad though. It's gonna show up on the bill as MEdia Net Package added +3.00 MEdia Net Package removed -3.00 MEdia Net Package added +3.00 MEdia Net Package removed -3.00. Maybe I'll hide his glasses when the bill comes :-D
Yeah. It would have been alot worse if i didn't take it off the bill and did charge them 500 bux.

She already had spare keyboards and mice, and got a printer working for it. (Aparently it's previous owner had tried cheap 3rd party ink, which leaked, so it doesn't work perfectly.) She found a flat screen LCD hp pavilion monitor with about 2800 hours on it for $20. (She got it at a Goodwill store. She saw it was being put on the shelves and waited while they priced it, then bought it immediately. lol) I installed an old Win98 HD and got help with a couple drivers from here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=157161

BTW, I used to watch my mom program when I was like 3. My dad did punch cards in school.

Somewhat on topic, I was a little surprised to find that my cell plan had changed to accommodate a new phone I bought. Was I told about it? Nope.

    Wasn't very happy about it.

Glad you got your problem worked out, zDawg. Good job.

My parents never gave me a cell phone, which was probably a good thing. I got into enough trouble with a land line. ;) They used an analog phone until the last day they were in service. Then the company automatically switched to a digital plan. My dad doesn't like the new phones: the buttons are too small for his fingers, and the phones as well as the plans are more complicated. They sometimes consider changing plans, but don't usually get very far before they find it confusing. Sometimes they have something figured out, and are told something different when they call the company. They always get the name of the rep that talks with them. Once my parents had a fee of over a hundred dollars because they thought a change made over the Internet had gone through, but of course it didn't. The place reduced it to a small fee, though.

Did you buy online, adryn? I was not able to order the Voyager for my daughter until I changed over our plan. It wouldn't let me. If you bought in the store, I'd have an issue if they just switched you over without letting you know. Good luck fighting that though.

In store. I did fight it actually, and only won because

    1. They didn't tell me and can't prove they did.
    2. I ordered VCAST VPAK which has a 30 day trial, and covers the data requirements for the phone. Hence the lame music subscription was removed.

    Mostly number 2 prevailed heheh.

I just don't understand why cell phone prices are so so expensive. It seems the more profits the companies garner the higher the prices go and now it's just ridiculous. I'm cancelling mine personally and going back to a land line and a cricket for the car.

It is rediculious. I don't have to pay for it, but me, my dad, my mom and one of my dad's employees is on the same plan. $150.00/month! 1,400 anytime minutes w\ rollover.

With my phone i am not bound into a contract, my network provider has a system where you insert a card and top it up via a text message, the software is built into the card so all i do is press 1 key and select from the menu how much i want 25/50/100 euros.

it's great i can regulate it myself and no hassle over unpaid accounts.

Agreed. I made the same mistake when I was 17! So at least take comfort in the fact that nothing bad really happened and that it didn't cost your family that much money.
