Downloding Pics Via Camera - Problem

When I download pictures from my Olympus Digital Camera onto my computer, XP used to have a window pop up asking me what I want to do with the pics. (For example, save to a folder, etc.)

This is no longer showing. Now the only way I can get the pictures off the camera, is to go to "My Computer" and click on the drive (?) that has the camera icon. Once I download pictures that way, they're removed automatically from the camera, and sometimes the camera will say that there's an error.

How can I get XP's window to pop up again, asking me what I want to do with the photos?

I prefer not to use the program that came with the computer, XP's method was perfect for me.

    Thanks

Try this: Plug your camera in to the PC.
Open My Computer. Your camera should be showing, right click it and choose Properties.
Click the Autoplay tab. Choose multimedia type you want to change.
Under Actions, choose the one you want Windows to perform when you plug in your camera.

    Thank you for your help!
Under the Autoplay tab, the multimedia type always shows Music. When I change it to photos, it won't keep that setting.
The computer will make a little noise like it used to, when I plug the camera in and out of the computer. Still no pop up, as it seems stuck in "Music" mode.

You may have to go to Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras and re-add your camera. Then try the fix in my last post.

Discovered that my camera was not there. I tried to add it, but my camera wasn't in the list. I tried the closest number, but the computer doesn't recognize the camera.
    Poop.
    :cry

I don't understand, it was there before, had no problems.

I've lost mine before. Not sure what the reason for that is.

You said you have the installation disc?
You should be able to just add the driver and not all the bloatware.
Try going to Scanners and Cameras and click Have Disc, then lead the Wizard to the driver, if it needs to be. (It may find it on it's own)
I haven't set my camera up on my XP machine, so I am not real certain of the actual steps the wizard will take, but if this didn't do it for you, I will dig out my install disc tomorrow and follow the wizard all the way through.

I found my disk, however, when I click on "Have Disk" in the Wizzard, I get this pop up .....
"Doesn't contain information about your hardware".

    The CD cover says it has;
    1. Camedia Master 4.2: used to download pics from the camera, view, organize, retouch and print.
    2. Reference Manual

I don't believe I've ever used this disk to install their own downloading program.
XP has always popped up asking what I'd like it to do. I use Picasa if I want to do any photo editing.

I noticed as well, my disk didn't start up by itself, I had to go into "My Computer" and open it from there.

I just searched Olympus and there are no drivers for that camera.

I did come across this fix, which is supposed to be added to the MS knowledge base.
It worked for another Olympus camera.

It's a direct download and I scanned it with both Malwarebytes and AVG. It came out clean
