Boo to NBC and Microsoft Olympic coverage

I don't know if it's a problem with Microsoft's Silverlight player, or if NBC's servers are just overloaded (probably the later), but for the last two nights I am unable to watch any Olympic coverage online.

During the day it seems to work fine, but whenever I try to watch Judo (or anything else for that matter) after 12:00am CST the player just sits at 0% buffering.

I'm sure their servers are swamped, but what the hell? They've got plenty of money. They shouldn't have advertised full Olympic coverage, then not put enough fire power to back it up.

    :flip NBC

Yeah, I've been watching it on TV.. But for some odd reason they're only covering events in which the USA is favored to medal :confused.

They don't even mention the other events (which is gay IMO).

Haven't watched myself, but it wouldn't surprise me as our media services are so biased it makes you wanna puke!!

Of course they do. Larger chance of medals means larger number of viewers which in turn means higher ad revenue. Basic math, in other words. In other countries they cover other events than here, for the same reasons.

Yes, as annoying as that is, that's certainly the way they do it. But hey, you're still gettin better coverage than if you went to the event, you can only be in one place at one time. :p

We've been watching daily and have seen a variety of countries competing not just the US. We have satellite but I think it's still all the same stations you would get through cable.

I guess I'm lucky as our CBC does extensive coverage along with one of our sports stations, there's also a French feed which is often different than the English and plus the NBC feed and the internet, so by the time the games finish I'll be sick of them.:puke:-D

You have to forgive him, Mimsy.
If it ain't curling or hockey, it's boring to a Canadian. LOL

What about Michael Phelp's fantastic achievement? :celebrate AND he's not done yet!

    Michael Phelps rocks. :strong

And he's swimming again tonight. I'm excited, and will definitely stay up late to watch that. The Guy teases me about how it's unfair that I'm getting all the eyecandy these Olympic games... :-D

I'm back and preparing to go again for a few more days. :)
Augie's not a neighbor. He's my long lost older brother. LOL
Besides, I love curling, but nothing beats a Michigan native racking up one of the most awesome records in sports history. ;)

    @ Mimsy,
Tell The Guy that they all lose their magnificent stature, in comparison to him. ;)

Actually, I told him he could watch all the women's beach volleyball he wanted. :innocent

Oh, and what you said too.

Phelps is insane... watching him is like watching the 1992 Dream Team in action.

Personally though, I'd like to see this year's Dream Team win every game by 40+. It's about damn time that they do.:cool

I have watched a lot of swimmers and I can not believe how relaxed and smooth his stroke is. He rotation actually looks slower than the others because of that.

Oh, I'll watch the basketball and cheer the US, but it won't be the same as watching the Pistons. :-D

That will probably never happen again. The rest of the world has caught up by now. Personally, I think that is better for US basketball in the long run. Competition is what sharpens talent.

Besides I would rather see them come back and win a close game, fighting for each point and finally get that W through good team play, fighting spirit, and sheer will power. There's no glory in coasting towards the gold, graciously declining free throws and half heartedly jogging back to play defense in case it against all odds might be needed.

It might be cheesy, but the measure of a champion is not in how they win but in how they face defeat, recover, and come back from it to win again. We've seen the defeat, in the most recent world championship tournaments. Now it's time for the recovery.

That is true, the international players have certainly been catching up.

The losing has been good to US basketball. People are realizing they can't just stick a group of professional players together and win gold so they've been installing core values such as team work and patriotism to this new dream team. (which is why I like this "team" better than all of the previous dream teams except the 1992 one cuz that team's a bit out there)

hopefully they can take gold, and yes they would have to fight for it, they will definitely not dominate teams like Spain, Argentina or Greece.

    Anyway, looking forward to it~~:)

Also looking forward to Phelps taking all 8, cuz I mean if you're crazy like that already, everyone wants to see you go crazier

w0rd.. it's like watching the Harlem Globe Trotters, it's entertaining for a little while, but in the end it can't compare to a good close playoff game.

BTW, Canada is showing the US/Greece game live and NBC is showing Matt Lauer learning how to drive a bike in the velodrome and the ever widening Al Roker stuffing his face with Chinese street food. Scorpion on a stick anyone? Oh, the US is winning handily at the half.rolleyes

*got out of bed disgustingly early to watch basketball this morning*

Then again, this is just the first group games. Wait until it's about the quarter finals and semi finals...

Women's beach volleyball is on right now.

Can I just say omg! The one Belgian woman is 6'4" 190lb! AND they are giving Walsh/May a run for it.

WTF?!?!?! So I'm watching men's beach volleyball live on NBC, and it's really coming down to the wire. Then, suddenly, they switch to women's backstroke finals. Okay, I'll just go online so I don't miss it. Lowe and behold, they're not even broadcasting it online. Nine other sports are being broadcast live, but not men's beach volleyball. WTF??

Finally they cut back to it on the second to last play. I would really be pissed if it was already over.
