Police in Britain are out looking for the WASP Knife, a weapon that injects a ball of compressed gas into its victim that then expands to the size of a basketball, instantly freezing and exploding their internal organs.

The blade was designed to help hunters and divers bring down large wild animals quickly, but is now at risk of landing in the hands of serial killing-minded crooks.

Think of the damage this weapon could do

I read about this in news paper a few days ago about this hitting the street of LONDON turned me cold

Of course, none of this makes a difference after you notice the blade is long enough to puncture the heart. Of course they'll go for something like this. Makes you wonder how the british manage to walk around with full suits of chain mail.

Hollow points do more just as much damage and from a distance.

Yeah, but with that knife you've got to be up close and personal, which means for whatever reason you intend to make the victim suffer.

True, but if I shoot someone, I fully intend for them to suffer too, up close and personal or not.

how exactly is it at risk of landing in the hands of serial killers? can you just go and buy one of these things at a store?

Pretty neat knife. I would get one just for kicks if they were not so expensive. I don't plan on getting into knife range with a bear or shark...

I prefer the mobile hand operated lead delivery system in a .40 cal flavor.:-D

If one is hunting then why would one need a close encounter with the beast with a knife? Put a bullet in the brain!:confused There's nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal or a peeved off mother. Besides, who are the sickos that think this crap up? Sigh.

Only specially trained officers carry guns. But the normal copper on the street certainly doesn't have a gun.

Me. Because I don't hunt. I only hike. My Case might do the trick if I was attacked by a raccoon, but I was thinking one of these might help more if I ran into anything bigger.

No law in any country stops criminals from carrying guns.

While I think it is pretty neat, I don't think it would be very practical to use it. Most people don't know how to use any knife other than a steak knife. This one you would need to stab a critter, reposition your thumb, and press a button and hold the knife in the critter... All while your adrenaline is kicking.

Plus, with the location of the firing button, there would be a good chance it had been discharged while being moved around. It is a neat concept though, kinda the opposite of the blood groove on a weapon.

I like collecting weapons. Not really a sicko...:cool Unless you think collecting weapons makes me a sicko. In that case I am a twisted sob!

True, but at least here in the UK we try to make it more difficult for criminals to get them, whereas in the US you make it as easy as possible for them.

thats disturbing... I mean created intent was obviously not the most practical use of this weapon.

How exactly does it inject the pellet and hopefully you need documentation and a permit for it so if you freeze someone's internal organs they can pin you for it...

No offense, but I am glad I am not there. Over here, a lot of us own weapons, but we don't go on a rampage with them... If it is that hard to get weapons over there, why the worry about the gas injecting knife?

Consideration and respect for life cannot be legislated. It should be taught by parents and by society. Ultimatly, who and what you are decides what you will do with a gun, knife, baseball bat, or heck a car, or maybe even a plane... Not a law on a piece of paper that restricts law and life loving people.

@Wenchie, I think it is something similar to a CO2 cartridge. It injects a gas while the button is pressed and the blade is possibly in the target. Not an easy thing to do.

Lots of work to use the gas knife. A basic blade will do the job much easier and cheaper.

I love life. I love weapons. I will use whatever I have to defend myself, my property, and my loved ones if I have to. I have had guns, knives, swords, and various weapons for 20 years or more. My only victim was an opossum who would not leave my yard.

Banning guns will never keep them from criminals only make it impossible for law bidding people

I was speaking of how freely they hand weapons to police without a more thorough physc exam,
they in turn shoot kids, people who are armed with sticks, ahhhh grrrr

No offense taken, but I think you have a media-inflamed view of the UK. It is as safe as the US. People don't go on the rampage with them in the UK....heck....they barely go hunting anything larger than rabbit either!

As to weapons hard to get...no. If you know where to go you could obtain a gun in minutes in most cities. The fact of legal or illegal to possess a weapon is totally irrelevant. A criminal does not care. He is going to posses what he wants. A knife really isn't the weapon of choice as you have to get up close and personal to use it, and that's where things can go wrong very quickly. If knives were the weapon of choice and guns hard to get in the UK all the violent type crims would be walking around with a kitchen knife down their pants and not a gun. That just isn't the case though.

But Bill... that just can't be! Guns are outlawed in England. And assault is illegal. So there are no illegal guns for sale there, and your 'facts' on knife violence must be a farce. :-D

Just a little sarcasm there. I think my views on owning guns/weapons and crime are known, and I know there are others with opposing views. And I am sure we will not change anyone's opinion in a online forum. I do find it amusing that here in the US, there seems to be a kneejerk reaction to crime. Crime BAD! need MORE laws to make crime MORE illegal!

Like hate crimes. What the... Have you ever heard of a loving, peacefull, and kind murder or beating?

I think we should try to find out why people are so violent (I have my own beliefs on that) and try to find a way to stop it. Not just throw more laws at the problem.

Oh well, enough from me this morning! Have a good weekend!

As an ex Marine i have a great respect and a love of weapons.

I am a registered gun owner and am a member of a pistol club (the only way you can get a license in Belgium) I also have a Stryker crossbow that i use in competition and that is almost as powerful as a pistol the velocity is over 400 feet per second and do not misunderstand if i thought my life or any member of my family were threatened i would not hesitate to use either.

One of my son in laws has been going deer hunting with a cross bow for years, never got anything. I think the whole family is glad of that

The only thing you would be able to hunt in Belgium would be wild boar (or cows n sheep:-D) but seeing how i can't run around i have to stick to targets that stay still.

i only took up the crossbow 3 years ago, i used to shoot the long bow but it takes more than 100 pounds pull and after my accident i did not have the strength.http://smileydatabase.com/s/875.gif

Gun are easy to get anywhere in the world through non-legitimate sources. America, the UK and everywhere else. Anyone who doesn't think so is seriously living in a bubble. To legitimately purchase a weapon not designed for hunting in the united stated applicants must pass a criminal and mental history inquiry - it's not a perfect method, as obviously some people have never commited a crime YET but assault weapons, to my knowledge, cannot be purchased in most states period unless they're decommisioned. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Would I personally carry a weapon? No... should I probably considering the state of society? Oh definately. But I definately think more needs to be done to control who gets a weapon and perhaps a limit to how many types of active weapons they're allowed to own. twon hunting, one hand gun, etc. I mean, if they're purely collective there should be no reason they have to work and risk being stolen, imho.

I say, "If you need more gun control, USE BOTH HANDS!" LOL

Seriously, guns (any weapon) are out there and can be found quite easily.
If one country was able to totally cleanse themselves of them, than someone would just smuggle more in.
And a gun can be easily made, if one has the ammo.
(And that WASP knife can also be made fairly easily, too)

There is no real solution, other than making the penalty for illeagal gun use so severe that it would stop some from using them.
    (Castration perhaps?)

One of my son-in-laws has been bow hunting for years. And very successful at it too with deer, elk and bear. In fact he is off bow hunting antelope right now :) I plan on going with him some this year just to watch the difference, being a rifle hunter myself.

    LOL @ Musky

The only punishment severe enough would be immediate execution and it still wouldn't stop it.

As for the knife in question, remember that a human moving through the woods is noisy to our relatively insensitive ears. A bear, or big cat hunts prey with ears several dozen times as sensitive as a humans, at minimum. So even if you're actively hunting the bear can get so close a long arm is useless, and even a hand gun isn't useful. A knife is a weapon of last resort, and in this case, I'd rather have this knife than have to stab it eighty or a hundred times, while it's mauling me, or ripping my throat out of my neck.

And: "When you outlaw guns, only outlaws have guns."

    I like that :)

When I worked in L.A. in the day I carried pepper spray at night I carried my 38.
The Los Angeles area is a whole other place. Everywhere you go are guards even grocery stores.
Dan and I stopped once at a pawn shop to see what they had. They let in one (or one couple) at a time. We went through two doors each locking behind us as we passed. Yet the crime still exists, hum.

Guns don't kill people. Bullets kill people. So lets give everyone guns, then outlaw bullets.
