Get rid of the 8,479 extra applications it includes which are useless to 99% of the population.

    Hi

Your not giving us much info to go on for an alledged hacker!!! ;)

    Whats your PC hardware specs?
How many startups do you have starting? ( CCleaner can list these for you in its Tools > Startup menu )
    Have you checked for malware?

U can speed it up the same way u would do XP I did I on my PC with the newest Vista OS
go to start>Run type "Msconfig" then enter then when the utility comes up
open the "startup" tab there u will see all the programs run in background the best way to utilized this is to uncheck everything but your antivirus program but be carful not uncheck a system program if you don't know what it is leave it checked sometimes you can scroll over to see exactly what it is by scrambling out the giberish.
Next open up the service tab and look down at the bottom see the little box that says "hide all microsoft services" once u do that now you can safely uncheck more programs be careful.
    next restart
open up My Computer rightclick the C: drive>properties clean up all files on C
go to start run type defragementation run this utility until its done restart your pc
now u should see a slight difference in performance

You should NOT use msconfig to control what programs start at boot up. Neither should you use CCleaner's facility for this. It does not provide back-up. Try a start up manager instead such as StartUpCPL, which can be downloaded from here...

I use WinPatrol myself. It has great startup controls in my opinion, including delayed start, as well as several other nifty utilities including monitoring for the startup, homepage, etc. I haven't used StartUpCPL so I can't really compare the two...

One good thing to do is simply tell the computer you want more performance... Click Start, then right-click on Computer and click Properties. Then click on the Advanced System Settings link on the left. Click continue if it asks. Then, in the Performance box, click Settings. In this window, click the option to Adjust for best performance, and then hit apply/ok. Windows might not look as pretty, but it should help considerable in performance.

Another thing you can do is switch the Theme from Aero to Basic. Right click on the desktop and hit Personalization. Then click Window Color and Appearance. Then click on the Open classic appearance properties for more color options link. Then choose Vista Basic, or another more basic theme and hit apply. This again will not look as pretty, but it will help performance.

Those two steps may or may not be somewhat redundant... I'm not sure if they overlap some settings or not.

Controlling the startup will most likely help tremendously... Generally name brand computers will come with a lot of garbage on them. As if Vista doesn't have enough 'goodies' itself(note that I'm not a Vista hater, but as with most 'extras' it will take more resources) some companies see to it that there are just enough startup programs and extra little 'utilities' popping up to slow the computer to a crawl. Disabling or simply uninstalling the all together will help computer performance. Be careful and check up on what you disable or uninstall before you do it, though. You wouldn't want to accidentally uninstall a system utility, driver, or something along those lines. Unfortunately it seems as though some companies have manufactured their computers in a way in which, even with the correct drivers in place, you may not get full functionality without a particular utility of theirs, or something similar. Not to discourage you from controlling the startup, you should, just don't blindly uncheck everything that you can.
