90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was actually Windows Vista.

    Vindication!!
See, told you all it was FUD and bandwaggoner bull crap.

Ok, granted there are still some things in Vista that we can do without.. but still, for the majority, it's been vindicated. No one knows why they don't like it, just that they don't like it for "some reason".. funny how they can't really explain those reasons very well :p

The only thing I don't like about Vista is its name - without Aero, it sure don't look like no purty vista to me! ;):-D

Vista is full of disappointments for me, but there are enough good points for me to like it.

LMAO.... has to be one of Microsoft best marketing coups to date!!!

Yes totally agree Jim, its all FUD from the early beta days that just didnt disapear, sadly I feel that only the last RC version and a pre-RTM should be released to a public CTP as releasing early RCs to public is what harmed Mojave oops Vista.... as many though great we are getting are hands on Vista early, sadly many didnt have upto date specs, didnt know what a beta is and at the first hurdle of a problem, ditched and called the os crap.

I dont think Vista is perfect, but it does have some great points too, I find many things easier and quicker to do, dont think I've used the all programs menu listing in a year, find and run any app from the start search box now.

Uptime for me is 100%, no major crashes that have caused me to have to re-install the OS is a huge plus for me and why I rate it over XP, even though XP is still IMO one of MSFTs best Windows to date, but we have to move on, sadly many cannot move on and dont like change! Have to laugh as many of these folk are saying we'll wait for Windows 7 as it thats going to be an XP clone, if they dont like change then they are in for a big shock.

The only problem I would have with Vista (and it is a big one) is the older hardware issue. I have a lot of old computers and parts (mostly parts), Vista simply isn't an option for me, and there is no way I'm going to use it on my newer hardware unless there is a compelling reason.

I haven't heard anyone talk about it being eco unfriendly, but I guess that's coming next. :p

For this reason alone I believe XP will be around for a while. When XP came out it would upgrade well over half the existing machines (80%+?) using older OS's, this isn't the case with Vista.

This whole thing of what OS is better is getting to be a bunch of meaningless babble to me. (only my opinion)

This is no different than the old "Chevy is better than Ford" thing.
Both vehicles have good and bad points.
    Then, there are Cadillacs.

All three of them can get me to where I want to go and it's only me that will decide which one I will ride in.

I'm not one to be swayed by talk.
I'll listen, research, and then try it out.
That way I find what I like and what stuff I heard was just drivel.
    Then, I decide.

    (I actually preferred Plymouth) :p

Yeah, XP will eventually not run on ANY newer machines. Yeah, Vista is different. Yeah, there will be newer OS's. And yeah, there is Linux.
Those are all facts. But what suits me may not suit you, and that's the way the world turns.

But thats like 50%+ of the folk who post here and other forums that they hate Vista, never tried it......... but took the hearsay from billybob the geeks cat as gospel.

The guy that said "its totally different to what I was told" is a classic, they need to use that as ad slogan.

Yes going to be a few once they gave it a good try that dont like it but the majority of people I have asked and know personally, have said they have no problems with it and either use it exclusively or as a second PC to an XP based one.

Know what I find ironic? Is that I have been bashed from one end of the net to another for saying a laptop with dang near the same specs running Vista performs well.

First thing I did when I got Vista, was pare down some of the processes and startups and it runs well.
I'm pretty sure the XP users have done the same thing.
But did they do that to the slow Vista they tried?

I made my own guide for cleaning up OEM XP/Vista and things have been very speedy for me. Check my blog.

Exactly, which is why the Black Viper site is famous, one of the first things I did and killed XP a few times in experimenting in what services where needed or not, before I got the running services to a min.

Most of the other times as you mentioned they are running older hardware or even outdated software, other times the OEM PC that they just bought is slow due to a million and one startups due to bundled software.

I've run Vista on a single cored Venice/1 GB RAM from Longhorn through to the Vista betas, RC's and RTM and found it comparable to XP though I wasn't sitting here with a stopwatch. Now that I have a dual core, Vista still seemed about the same speed wise.

I'm getting a quad very soon, as soon as it's delivered:), so I'll give Vista a shot again just to see what happens. I would have bought the Vista HP with this new build but it's not in the budget ATM as I need an extra 640GB drive rather than Vista right now.;)

An interesting take on this "experiment"

    Mojave experiment

I saw a commerical on the TV last night from Microsoft, asking people to go to Mojaveexperiment.com
It is to show people that Vista is better than what most people think.
    Try it!

Hi Scott, merged your post with this one we already have as you may like to read the comments made already.

It is IMO a superb way to really show that you cannot believe hearsay! try the software before making a judgement, although I know that they would have had a Vista spec pc running Mojave ;) but then Vista like other OSes will not run great on under powered PCs, so fact is and will be for Windows 7 is to get a newer spec PC with latest gen hardware as it will run the OS fine.

thanks David, I did not see the other posts, so I thank you for putting it were it belongs.
MS was greedy and they released vista before it was really completed. If they had waited and released it when the major bugs were fixed, they would have had good comments instead of all the bad ones!

    Oh well.............life goes on ....

I am in full agreement with you because until i bought my new PC 3 months ago i was very anti Vista, my intention was to bring home the new machine and change it over to XP Pro.

I decided to have a play with it and to my surprise i like it.
now i am on some heavy meds that effect my concentration and learning is slow(to say the least) but i am impressed with Vista if not in total control of it.http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/smileys-91853/7/whip.gif

    LMAO Bill

I think we are never in control of any OS, so med aside your doing OK ;)

@Scott, actually MS where not greedy and Vista was overdue by nearly a year due to restrictions in the anti-competitive behavour law suits that I do not agree with at all, a company should be able to produce what it wants, if IE is bilt in then so be it!

Sad part is many did not see that many applications and hardware needed updating, many 3rd party developers where slowwwwwwwww to develope new apps to take into concideration the new security measures in Vista, hey we all asked for better security in Windows, we get it and then we moan! catch 22, dammed if you add UAC and dammed it you dont!.

All in all my take on this OS is a simple one, I have not had to re-install it since the 1st install in Nov 2006 so a great testament to a stable OS IMHO.

i made the plunge and installed vista ultimate, and so far nothing is much different, other that the fact i can run musicmatch jukebox (cause it's old, and windows tells me that it's not compatible with vista, but i installed it anyway)
