Should I be listening to 'server' tech's advise

My servTech advises me to install 'their' spyware removal, but when we tried, McAfee stuff/remnants were detected to be installed.
I don't EVEN have enough skill to run the McAf removal tool(*it was Sting or Stinger-something),as I found listed on MajAttitude's download page. I question whether or not that is a necessary/helpful step.
I run AVG on my 2yr. old VistaOS eMachine, which sent lots of Spyware to vault? and I deleted, but every scan finds more. Can anyone advise me from here?

I'm not sure what you mean by servTech. Do you mean your ISP has free security software that they recommend you use? If so, what package is it. We advise against security suites in most cases since they will frequently cause dramatic slow down in your PCs performance.

To remove remnants of McAfee you need to run the below not Stinger.

    McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

Now to resolve malware problems, please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Thanks for sending the link to McAfee tool, that will be of some use to me, after I complete the Read & Run This First process I decided to begin!

I got as far as installing and running the MGTool, and have received the 4 easy zip files, but I cannot figure out the next: Upload?

Also, my clock is not set back, still on military time, and I re-ran it, double checking that I followed steps correctly, and tried the following steps, activating AUC and AVG, and got directed to the F2 or F10 choices at startup?

You should have run this first since you say you were already using AVG.

You need to attach the files as stated in the instructions. You were given a link telling you how to do this. The instructions were the below.
This means ComboFix did not run properly. We can fix it later.

Per the instructions in the READ & RUN ME you are only supposed to run the steps once.

It is not in your Guest account. It is where the instructions said it would be which is C:\combofix.txt I can see it in your logs.

Not sure why you rezipped the MGlogs.zip file to make it double zipped. This was not necessary not desired.

You did not attach the proper log from Malwarebytes. The proper log is here:
    Code:
    "C:\Users\Sioux\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\"
    mbam-l~1.txt Sep 12 2008 1886 "mbam-log-2008-09-12 (19-04-02).txt"
Your logs show a couple of new folders that seem questionable. Do you know what the below are from?
    Code:
    2008-09-08 19:02 . 2008-09-09 15:04 <DIR> C:\Users\All Users\ihijgjmb
    2008-09-08 19:02 . 2008-09-09 15:04 <DIR> C:\Users\All Users\comproc
    2008-09-08 19:02 . 2008-09-09 15:04 <DIR> C:\ProgramData\ihijgjmb
    2008-09-08 19:02 . 2008-09-09 15:04 <DIR> C:\ProgramData\comproc

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6
    Then reboot your PC.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    OK, merged successfully...

In noticing the dates on those 3 questionable files maybe...the "Spyware Removal" downloads... Spyzooka, was one. When I got 'Security breach' mssgs. I freaked and Googled "FreeSpywareRemoval...

    yeah, I KNOW!

I would just delete those 4 folders and then move on to the below.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Hello, Chaslang--I thank you greatly, for your help has been tremendous, and given me confidence in my visit to techno-land...
In following "How To protect/Malware" instructions, ran into these concerns:
#6--[Active X control] I couldn't find this selection..."allow paste operation via script", (Vista OS), so was unable to 'disable' that. (*Attempts to use Adobe flash player(?),suggested that I install a plug in, but a mssg. box lists ActiveX as preventing such. Do I need to do something or install another player?*Also, got a mssg. suggest. I delete some exe. files?)
#7 This may be a silly quest: Installed Mozilla Firefox, do I uninstall Internet Explorer?
#8 I did reinstall the current version of JavaSun once,(following 'Read/Run first') is there a need to do so again?
#9 in attempting to disable my Guest User acct, I got hung up, and did some 'Administrator' clicking, now I'm locked out of Guest User, totally, 'not having a PW'?
(*my grandson/guest is minimally perturbed about this)
    {--- Just for the record, I have installed:AVG8, ComodoFWall, CCleaner, paid-version SuperAntiSpyware, free-version Malwarebytes, Spyware blaster, PCRegistry cleaner, and Spybot.}
Thanks, in advance, for your consideration.

Not a problem. Those steps predated Vista. Anything not found in Vista can simply be ignored.

I'm not sure what you are referring too. Adobe Flash Player has nothing to do with the How to protect yourself thread. If you have problems with it, you should post them in the Software Forum. However it may be that what you just need to allow whatever it is that you are dowloading/installing to complete. You are probably getting a security warning notice in your browser and need to allow it.

No and you do not want to ever do that as IE is required on many sites especially Microsoft. Without IE, you would not be able to get all Windows Updates.

    No.

I'm not sure what you did here but you should not be using an account named Guest anyway. Create an account for your grandson and/or other guests to use and DO NOT create it as and administrator type account. Create it with limited capabilities. This will prevent them from messing up your PC.
