Anybody Having Trouble Getting WUs?

I'm trying to figure out if it's me or not. I haven't ever seen it this bad, took two days until I got a couple and now I can't connect again for new ones.:cry I've trolled their forums but can't really find anything.

 

I had trouble sending one a few days ago, then it just stuck at downloading one... stopped and started a few times and finally started working on the new unit.

 

Same here. Had two take several tries to upload results but no problem getting a new one afterwards.
May be Stanford monkeying with the servers for some reason.

 

No problems here. Stanford is bad about having servers down. They should have it fixed in a few days.

I haven't seen any problems, but then I haven't either downloaded or uploaded anything in the past few days. I hope they get the servers fixed for when I do...

 

I read something this week about them working on their servers (can't remember where) and that all should be well in a few days.

I also had a couple of slow days.

 

Thanks all, I guess I'll just wait then as I've ruled out everything on my end. It's just a waste of my new quad rig. Sigh. BTW, I have no issues with sending results, just getting new work. Hehe, maybe I'll start up some Seti@home while waiting for WUs.

 

What does your log file say Augie? Restarting the client will usually send the work in. If not, I think there is a way to force them, if Stanford's servers are up.

Could be a translation problem. Some of Stanford's servers don't speak Canadian. If you want, I will translate the data for you. Just change your user name

That's just downright sneaky Fred we are having trouble getting our members to fold and you with your super folding beast try to get them to defect.

No issues sending results, just receiving new work. I believe you mean qfix which is for abnormally terminated WUs. Mine have terminated normally but I'll try a reboot (crosses fingers).

Sorry Augie, I misread your post. If you are not getting work, it is there servers. No offence Augie, but sometimes I have trouble reading your posts because you type with a Canadian accent.

There is nothing on Stanfords site about server problems though. What folding client are you running?

Running 6.20 ATM, one GUI and three as a service. I was running a 5.03 GUI on my old rig and it was being terminated early and refolding the same WU after a reboot so I switched back to 6.20 on this rig. Ah well, I'll just wait.

 

I'm running 6.20 as well, one of each. I checked the GUI client, and I had no difficulties getting a new WU for it the day before you made this thread, so if it's their servers it is at least more recent than that. About to submit one on the PS3 any hour now though... if it's the same servers, it'll have issues getting a new wU. I'll post an update when I've seen what happens.

 

Mine are going through just fine on 171 64 65 103 server.

The PS3 is now happily crunching away at its new WU... unfortunately no mention of which server it sent to or uploaded from.

 

Well, patience prevailed though I'm still waiting for one more WU to fill up the box.

 

Here's the thing though: The WU my PS3 just finished does not show up in my stats. Anyone know how long the delay usually is? It was a huge one, and I want my points! For the first time ever I'm actually climbing in the ranks here.

 

FRED G could answer best but i seem to remember reading it updates every 3 hours?

 

I know overclocking.com updates every three hours, and Stanford says usually every hour.

I was trying to find info on the websites, but I'm not very good at research before I've had coffee in the mornings...

 

Well, this site: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=205587 is updated every 3 hours. I have noticed if I finish a WU around 30 to 40 mins before it updates, it does not show it untill the next update. So it seems like it is around an hour or so behind.

Can you access your log file? I have never used the console folding, don't know anything about it. But you should double check the log to make sure you got your name and team name correct. Should also have the IP of the Stanford server you are accessing.

I have looked for a log file on the PS3 before, but have never been able to find one. The Stanford PS3 FAQ doesn't even mention a log.

It has never had difficulties before though, it's easily the most stable and reliable of my folders, so I'm not overly worried that the WU got lost. Granted, there's a first time for everything, but the PS3 is too stable to mess up something as low-graphics as folding without external help.

(If you do haxxor it, please leave the save games alone! )

I just noticed I have a total of 243 WUs, and I noticed earlier today that my PS3 has 149. My least active folder is in other words the most productive one. I need to find excuses to keep it on more often...!

Aw, dammit.

I'm reading the thread now, but thankfully most of the described circusmtances don't apply to me. I never use the "shut down when complete" function, for example, and the one time I had great difficulties uploading a finished project, it was self-inflicted problems on my end, involving a brand new router who did not understand what a folding client is...

I'll keep watching that thread, and if necessary register to post in it. Thanks for finding it!

 

Well, today's WU seems to have uploaded okay, and the counter on the screen moved up to 150. All is well again

 

Keep an eye on it Mimsy, the ExtremeOverclockers stat site shows the last points you got were on Thursday.

Well, one of my 8800GTs is cranking around 5k PPD...

My folding farm is very small, but highly productive. No problems with work units if you just join Fred_G and my team!

And I am sorry if I sound like a broken record. I see where your members have the stuff to fold, just don't. MajorGeeks has GREAT potential in the FAH realm.

Nope, just finished the last two WUs early this morning and now nothing is working on all four cores. They are all attempting to get to the assignment server. I've posted about this on their forums but unless one gets the attention of a mod or a real knowledgeable person, the thread gets to by well meaning people or just lost in the jungle. I've trolled their forums and found a link to server status but I don't know what to do with all that info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Literally 5 minutes after posting this, I got two WUs!:celebrateHowever, it did take two days and as you can imagine, quite frustrating. Hopefully, they turned a corner today.

A nice and simple distillation of the essential facts. What I've found is that only the secondary assignment server works for me and after that, the collection and work servers are good too. I see from the logs that the main Assign server seems to be my issue.

I know it's probably not my firewall as all clients are allowed through, I even turned it off to test.(PCTools free) I also bypassed my router and plugged straight into the cable modem with no joy. How can I find out if port 8080 is blocked somewhere? I'll repost this in networking if necessary.

Otherwise, how can I change the default server in the client, if possible?

 

Augie think it's FAH, looked at my desktop log from today, but your PC should keep trying to connect and switch servers I believe. Laptop is going through the same process right now trying to find a WU.

Added info - looked at FAH forum and whatever it was is fixed but servers might take awhile to catch up.

 

Well, here's a bit of an update. I scrapped the 6.20 client(giving me 700PPD with all 4 cores folding) and installed the SMP 6.22b2 version service instead and it's giving me 550PPD on one core and the downloading of WUs is no longer a problem!:eek I am now going to install it on the other three cores and if all goes well, I should be getting 2K/PPD as Fred_G mentioned I should with a Q6600.

Glad you got it fixed up! I used to get 2k PPD from the SMP, but it farfed up. Just folding with GPU's now. May have to look into running that on one or to extra cores I have around here...:-D

Well, I scrapped the idea of running SMP as a service, mainly because they don't support it and I found out I was going about it all wrong, read the manual augie!:-D It's running perfectly from the command prompt with all 4 cores engaged. It got the WU and other necessary files and started crunching within a minute!

FaHMon now shows 2.1K PPD so I'm a happy camper. Thanks for all your help folks! No more :banghead:celebrate:wine

Now all I have to do is squeeze a couple of 8800's into the budget by the gf, but honey I need it!:-D

SMP's are nice. I will have to look into getting one back on the Quad box. Nice PPD! Not nearly as good as mine, but it is a start.

Stanford gives people on my team more points sometimes. Kinda like extra points for Folding with style...

Update: Just to put this thread to bed and to let everyone know that the problem of not being able to connect to the main server at http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/ with the error

was due to Peer Guardian blocking the request for some reason and it must have been an update to PG at or around Aug. 20 or so that blocked the requests from both the 5.03 and 6.20 clients and could not access the assign2 server for some reason, which is not blocked by PG. However, the SMP 6.22beta2 had no problems getting to the second server but was blocked for the main assign server. Got all that?

Anyways, I can't take credit for this as someone posted in my thread elsewhere with the solution, at least it works for me. I assume that more folk haven't complained due to the fact that most don't use PG. As soon as I get my X2 rig up and running with 6.20, I'll be able to confirm that too. I hope this helps.
