Not sure whether to laugh or cringe. Are those chopped or are they real? (The first two have to be chopped.) Is that her daughter?

The first two are. The others, to my knowledge, are not.

And yeah, that would be the unmarried pregnant teenage daughter. I have absolutely no problem with her being either unmarried or pregnant by the way. However, I do have a problem with her mother claiming that abstinence-only sex ed works on teenagers... :innocent

However, no form of sex education has ever guaranteed 100% success either at any age ;)

Exactly! My complaint is that in the interviews and speeches I have seen, she claims that. I don't want someone that naive to be anywhere near serious power.

I don't think she is being naive. I think your interpretation has mis-translated her meaning. She isn't saying that it works for ALL teenagers. She is saying that it does work for teenagers - that teenagers are capable of abstinence and understanding why it is a good thing.

Here's the thing though... I want a qualifier. Even if it is "most teenagers", I want the qualifier to be there, in the principle of honesty. Especially given that she was unable to make it work for her own daughter. No reflection on the daughter in question, none whatsoever.

But Sarah Palin is saying "it works, just not in my own family". To me that sounds very hollow.

Pictures of partying teenagers, there's a shock; probably similiar pictures on a few million My Space pages. rolleyes

Typical party politics: if you can't find any dirt, make some up.

It is now so easy to digitally alter any photo that you can no longer believe your eyes.

but without doubt she would be the best looking president ever seen.

I'm disappointed (but not surprised) at the broad-scope negative connotations made by some here. It's the same it always is during any presidential election, 90% of what you read or hear is bullshit. Frankly I don't feel too good about either parties' candidates right now, but Palin is more experienced in Federal Government than Obama, and I'd rather have her a heartbeat away from the Presidency than, for Chrissakes, Joe Biden.

It probably was time for Sarah Palin to move on, and if she had run for Congress of Senate, she would probably have done great. But she is not qualified for a VP job, not yet. In about ten years she'd have been a fantastic choice, but not yet. In fact, if she loses this election, the way she loses may permanently destroy her political career.

The fact that this does not seem to have occurred to her is to me a more negative sign and a much bigger warning flag than anything else, because it speaks of poor judgment and a poor grasp of her own abilities in relation to those of the people around her, and of the task in front of her.

No one, and I do mean no one, goes straight from the position of Department Manager to the position of Vice President in a Fortune 500 company. Especially not from one of the company's smallest departments.

Hi Mimsy...good post, good points. On rough examination, not many previous VP's or VP candidates have struck me as being ready for prime time.

One question: would you have thought Hillary was more qualified to be President than Palin a VP?

Got to call you on this one Darlene. How are celebrities any more qualified to think or talk about politics, other than they sound and look more professional on camera than the rest of us?

Mat has a degree in what? He is qualified in what way to anylize politics? Sure, he is confident and very believable in the video. Are those his thoughts, or a script... Who knows?

I generally try to stay out of political stuff on forums, but in this case I will chime in. And I am not thrilled with either candidate. I was very dissapointed on how the Republican candidates dropped out before I got a chance to vote.

I do think the Republicans VP candidate has more experience in the real world and in politics than the Democrats Presidential candidate. Community Organizer vs mom with real life kids, and some political experience.

And again, the Rebublican choice is not my dream team, but I think the lesser of 2 evils.

But dang, Palin is stridently irritating to me when she speaks! Like fingernails on a chalkboard.:-D

'Just checking that air filter for free. See you for the next oil change'.:-D

He is an actor. He is paid to play someone he is not. And don't get me wrong, I like him as an actor.

And I will state agian, neither of the choices look very good to me.

    Right on!!

I'd be terrified if McCain was elected and something would happen to him so that Palin would have to take over the presidency. Pitbulls can easily be muzzled by others stronger than her in this (political) world.

I am not afraid of her, fearful people do ignorant things. God help us irregardless of who gets elected in November. The ones who could do a good job do not want to get their hands dirty, or worse.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

    John F. Kennedy
    Inaugural Address
    Friday, January 20, 1961

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it."

Guess we'll have to wait until the year 2061 until we get to hear another great inaugural speech by a president of the USA. ;)

Abraham Lincoln's ghost wants me to tell you that doesn't matter. Raising hell and screaming in rage at the governent, if you truly believe they are no longer serving the people and the country well, is the duty of any true patriot.

Before anyone mis-interprets that, I am not advocating armed rebellion. What I am saying is that questioning authority and demanding to know how they reason and why they do what they do, is in the best interest of anyone in the US, regardless of which era they live in.

Unfortunately that's the only way to get results, but the general populace is too 'meh' to put any effort into it any more. It's better to just let them 'baa' and walk quietly to the slaughter.

I'd normally have to say that McCain is the better choice, but I don't think it matters at this point. Nows the time to start stocking up for the riots that'll start when the economy finally collapses.

You are quite correct, but the fact is the government no longer functions in our behalf, instead it has taken over so powerfully so absolutely citizens who cry out any more are punished or worse. Civil disobedience is no longer tolerated. Our constitutional rights be damned.

Or, and I know this is a novel idea, vote for the candidate that will be more likley to fix up the economy, if you think one of them can.

Difference between Europe and USA: Most european countries would have a record voter turn-out in a year like this, and the voters would elect anyone who is not The Guys In Charge Right Now. Current government would be blamed for the disastrous economy, and their polar opposites woudl be elected on general principle.

Whether that would actually solve anything is a different matter entirely. rolleyes

You don't really think the majority of Americans really want a United States of Europe do you?

Why is there such a outcry at the guy in charge? It IS better than 8 years ago with the last guy in charge.

and you say it's better than 8 years ago???????????

Sounds like a good idea the problem there is I don't believe the average american actually knows who is in charge. Between the pres. and congress and big money it's all hidden to some extent. Unless it's your liefs work and you study it all.

The unfortunate problem my dear, is that none of them can. All candidates are handcuffed by party politics so anything they do is immediately attacked and blocked by the opposing party no matter what it is, or who it benefits.

So why not riot in the streets and demand Congress be removed too. Charlie Rangel insisted the rules be loosened to allow subprime loans for mortgages. 95% of home mortgages are being paid. The few bad eggs are the ones trumpted in the media.

It is not at the feet of the President.

I don't agree with Iraq, but the answer is that the surge has worked. We have troops doing their job.

    Anyone remember Somalia?

Or Bosnia, or bombing Sudanese Pharmacy Factories to dispel attention to Monica-gate....

Also we don't have 24 % unemployment and the debacle of 481 days of Hostages coupled with 24% interest rates.

I was able myself to procure part time work at a good wage this week. Nope, America is still the Greatest Nation there is.
