The latest financial crisis is so dangerous to our economy that the EXPERTS must step in and correct the situation.

    The Bush solution:
I have talked to our friends, the Chinese, but due to their large expenditures beautifying their gorgeous countryside for the previous Olympic festivities they are unable to loan me, I mean us, the US any more money at this time.
I have also spent countless hours with our friends in the middle east, but due to prior large scale monetary commitments constructing affordable housing for deserving immigrants in and around Dubai, they also are unable to help.
But, not to worry. Putting together the best minds that our government has at it’s disposal, and also working in a bi-partisan manner, with all members of congress in total agreement, we have realized that the solution is very simple. We are going to print more money and buy all these failing institutions. I think you all will agree that this sure sounds pretty good. Sounds good to me!

    McClain answers:
My friends, in true bi-partisan spirit I agree with the present administration, However, if I were president, I would already have had the printing presses running full speed, 5 days a week printing this much needed economic stimulus to forestall this financial catastrophe before anyone, and hopefully you, ever knew about it. Thank you, my friends.

    Obama answers McClain:
My fellow Americans, I too must agree with my most worthy opponent. However, I would have started the printing process even sooner, and, I would have put on 2 more shifts at the presses and they would be working weekends with homeless interns. Furthermore, I would have set up a private savings account in Switzerland and make sure 35% of the gross output from those printing presses was going directly into that account, just in case something bad were to happen again. And only I would have access to that account, for security reasons.

I am not a very smart person, but I am told we live in the greatest country in the world with the most intelligent society ever. If so, why can we only come up with these clowns to lead us?

It seems to happen like clockwork, OACA.
It must be every 4 years, that our collective intellect drops to sub-humanoid levels.

I think it's time we write to our senators suggesting they demand that the debt be absolved. Translation: All mortgages considered paid in full. And the credit cards too while we're asking.

**** yes! I've only had my mortgage for three months, I would love to have it all paid off right now!

In all seriousness... that's the sort of idea that even the clowns in charge right now would discard. ;)

No, as a matter of fact I wasn't joking. Oh, I know it has the same chance as a snowball in Hawaii of working, but it's certainly worth a shot. And besides, if all the senators and representatives get the same suggestion...

It's like asking the boss for a huge raise and getting the small one that you wanted. Besides, it's a better idea than the travesty they are committing now.

    ...

I thought you were joking. This is right along the lines of a guy who threatened me some years ago when I worked for an ISP that if I didn't tell him my last name that he would call his local senator.

Nice pipe dream, but it will remain at that.

So the other taxpayers who are paying rent or mortgage payments should take care of the bad debt? :confused

You know stuff like that makes me wonder what "

(this post is pre-edited by Fred _G to prevent offensive statements from being posted.) And yeah, I think I might have offended a few of you here!;)

    " are thinking these days.

Well Bill, I told Lev I would behave.

Sometimes I think I was a writer in a previous life. Most likely one that starved to death!:-D On some subjects, it is like I have a whirlwind of thoughts and ideas, and many opinions, and with my sense of humor, things could get ugly.

This little whirlwind, I will let slip away into the dark recesses of my mind.

But, while we are talking about forgiving bad debt, why not give everyone a new car. And why should we work anymore...

See, I can get carried away. :-D That was just a gentle breeze.

    Have a good day!

I'm not an economist but, we get US news in Canada at the same time and from the same sources as the US taxpayers do.

When I hear Bush speak, his words suggest that 700 billion dollars must be spent to save America, but I hear the subtext "give me money to pay my rich friends."

McCain's subtext is "!@#$% why did our stinking rich pals loot so much cash from their treasuries in Executive Compensation during MY election year?"

Obama is more direct "No stinking rich suckers are getting any more cash. Period"

So, they all agree that the stinking rich guys who are in charge of the current great swindle, are to blame. The only question remaining is: How much money are they going to get?
    :)

Since this is public $$ that they will be spending, there should be a public hearing about it. Then all would be out in the open and not behind closed doors while this is being cooked up. That's my outsider's view on it.
