I'm thinking of buying an upgrade for my system.
An AMD Athlon 6000+ dual core cpu.

Anyone with advice on price and performance on this product?

Also thinking of a larger HD currently using 160 gig.
Haven't used it all yet but thinking to the future and have small winfall to use now.

First off, here's the price of one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103272 Since you're upgrading, does your MB support that CPU? As for the HDD, do you store alot of music and videos? If so, the larger the better and you may even want to consider a SATA HDD. Faster doesn't hurt either!! I could help you further if I know what MB you're using, or what system. Is it custom built? Dell? Gateway?

My system is an Acer T-160 3500+ desktop. I have the mem up to 2 gig, added a new power supply and a g-force 8600 video card. I am a WOW player and spend 10 to 20 hrs a day playing. I also am using and Acer 20 in. lcd and a 19 in. dell trinitron monitor. For sound I have the Logitech easycall keyboard and mouse and z4I speakers.

    Hi Daz58

Some info for you that should come in handy while upgrading this PC, as you'll want the PCs specs so that you can make sure that any parts will be compatible.

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo...&areaid=2&formid=3404&LINKTEXT=Specifications this is the Canada ACER site so that all you need to do is choose a topic from the left menu then click into the search boxes for Desktop then your T160 model

You will have no problems upgrading your Hard Drive as the system is already supporting SATA drives.

As for the CPU the AMD Dual Core 6000+ is a AM2 socket type and your existing one if I read the specs correctly is a Socket 939 so max CPU in Dual Core you can add is a Athlon 64 X2 4800, so double check the socket type and Everest can do this, once installed click Motherboard > Motherboard and under Motherbaord Physical Info will be Socket Type.

Thankfully I broke my WoW second life. Halo has given the bee's knee's response and a SATA HDD will be the best. Transfer your games onto that for "slightly" better loading times and play responses.

I checked on the amd site, and brought the system in to my local shop, and I am sure mine is the AM2 socket.
    and DDR2 mem.

    Does this help ?

    Hi

While ACER could easily change specs on the model of PC you have, from what I read earlier, said it was a 939 socket, but before buying any CPU, please do double check that the motherboard socket is indeed an AM2 socket type, which is where Everest will help.

Mentioning this as I dont know if you know that you cannot just plug any CPU into a motherboard as socket types have to match between CPU and Motherboard and wouldnt like you to buy a CPU that wil not fit. Post the motherboard info from everest and we can help confirm this with you.

Yes on SATA drives are much quicker than IDE.
