Well, who does not like a bargain? And by 'sleepers' I mean stuff that is sold at a cheap price, but is an excellent product.

I will start with a couple of outstanding bottles of wine for less than $14!:cool

Now the wine market is strange, things available here are not sold there... That is where you Geeks come in.

Best bang for the buck in Freg_G's winerack...

Borsao Red Wine: This is a nice Spanish blend of Garnacha and Tempranillio grapes. Good wine for a big meal. Or just with cheese, but I would recommend food with it. $10 for 750ml

Buzzard Tree Meritage: Now this wine, well, let's just say it is a killer deal at $14 or so for 750ml! Classic Claret/Bordeaux style wine made in CA by Norman Vinyards. Most of Norman's stuff is in the 20-30$+ range. This wine is a steal if you see it for under $20! It is a cheap and ugly bottle, but wow, that is a big wine in there!

The Buzzard Tree Zinfandel is a good one to, I don't know the price, but most likely $15 or less.

And if it is still hot where you are, look for a Gazela Vino Verdi. A touch of carbonation makes this wine a hit for the hot weather! Great for spicy foods. Or heck at 6% alc. Good one to just drink! Especially at $7 a bottle.

And no, I am not selling these online.:-D SPAM free here!

But surely some of you have come across a company or item that is a 'sleeper'. Post them up!

Sounds like a relative of the Borsao! http://basicjuice.blogs.com/basicjuice/2005/03/odd_grape_week__1.html

Wine is tons of fun. Food and wine pairings just make for a great experience! I usually stick to the CA wines, but wow, for the $ some of these Spainish wines are spectacular!

Do as I say, not as I do, young man! Oh wait...forget I said that. :p

'sides, no one was supposed to see that :-D

btw, Fred, surprisinglyrolleyes I misspelled it. It's Las Rocas. and yes, it's also a Garnacha. I'll have to check yours out. Another one I like is a French burgundy (or Pinot Noir if you are talking CA): Louis Jadot Beaujolais Village. It's generally in the $9.99 range.

I love CA wines and Oregon for Pinot Noir and spend more money that we should, so it's nice to find some inexpensive ones. Unfortunately for all of us, the US is ignorant about European wines, as they are just as good and a lot less expensive.

Louis Jodot Beaujolais is a very nice little wine. In November (third Thursday of the month I think) the Beaujolais Nouveou(sp) will be out! Beaujolais is the odd little Burgandy. It is made from the Gammay grape as opposed to the Pinot Noir grape. Dang French get tricky sometimes.

Well, I hear a 2001 Beckman Syrah calling me... NOT a bargain wine, but supposed to be tasty. We, or rather I will see.:-D

    I'll keep an eye out!

Really? I thought all burgundys were pinot noir grapes. No wonder my husband will drink it and likes it. He's not a big fan of pinots.

$10 to $15 for this Zinfandel. Not to be confused with the White Zinfandels... Buzzard Tree Zinfandel. Paso Robles CA wine. Made by Norman Vinyards. Dang. Good solid red wine. Nice by it'self or with a steak or even pizza. I am going to get a few bottles of this for my wine rack. Ugly as heck label, and cheap bottle, but the goodness is inside!:-D
