1.25Gig of RAM on PC running XP (with IOBIT "Smart Defrag" running on "Auto-Start" ... I also frequently run CCleaner and Windows "Disk Cleanup").

Have seemed to be running-into some "bottleneck" problems (slow-downs), and when I checked the Virtual Memory/Paging File Size, it was set at "System Managed" @ 1277 MB, but the "Recommended" number was "1915" MB (with "12975 MB of space available" ... and with a "Minimum Allowed" of 2 MB).

I went-ahead and changed it to 1915, but should this number be used in BOTH the "Initial" and "Maximum" boxes? And why would the "System Managed" size be less that what the System itself, "Recommended"?

The slow-downs don't seem quite as bad or as frequent since I made the changes, but I'm still not sure that I've done the right thing here (by setting BOTH the Initial and Maximum sizes to 1915 MB)?

    Thanks in advance,

Sounds like you did right, but with over 1 gig of RAM on XP I am surprised it bottlenecks. Smart Defrag is great, I recently started installing it on systems no one maintains for extended periods of time, as it auto starts and defragments well w/o user input. I also set XP not to optimize disk when system is idle with tweakui, as it seems to defeat the purpose of using a third party defrgmenter. Smart Defrag also did a better job in safe mode after a check disk run.

Thank you - I'm a bit surprised too (at the bottlenecks), though this PC has just about the slowest DSL connection possible I think (and I am also going through it and removing a lot of old junk, etc.).

I followed your suggestion and have installed TWEAKUI, and de-selected "optimize disk when system is idle". We'll see how it goes!

    Thanks Again,
