just went and bought vista. big ol chunk out of my paycheck. :(

is there any way i can install this on my machine withoujt a dvd drive, or do i have to wait until next check and go get a dvd drive? id really like to just save up for a bluray burner, but if i have to, ill buy a crappy drive for now.

i remember being able to do a netboot with debian, and also remember a usb install option. are either possible with vista? i can always go to my buddys house and rip the dvd to my ipod if i can install it like debian.

I assume that the system in your sig is not the one you want to install Vista to? If so then it won't work.

If you have a computer repair shop close to you, check there for used dvd player. I can find them in my area super cheep. Under 20 bucks cheep. Most shops will take the parts off computers that otherwise get tossed.

Hehehe, sorry man. I had misplaced my funny bone when I read your sig.;) At least you can get a decent drive cheaply these days. Have fun with Vista!:)

All of the above comments are right on the money. Used DVDROM drives can be found for about $15 or $20 at most PC shops that deal with used gear; a used DVDRW would be maybe $30 but are much harder to come across. New DVDRW drives are only about $22 at Newegg with FREE shipping. Definitely something to think about. Another thing to think about: BluRay is fairly expensive. If you wait maybe 2-3 more months until right after XMas or early '09, I'll bet the price will be close to 50% off what they are now.... DVDRW drives were about $60 less than a year ago, now under $25...
