    Hi all,

I have a feeling I already know the answer to this question but I'll ask it anyway.

I have some older XP machines that I need to clean viruses off, thing is they run soooo slow. How effective would it be to pull the drive, drop it in a caddy connected to a more powerful PC and run the removal tools on the powerhouse, scanning the connected drive as if it were a networked drive?

Im assuming there would be permissions problems accessing and testing all the files but the only bad question is one that never gets asked right?

It would remove some items but not all. You would still need to clean all user accounts on the problem drive after properly Windows on the infected drive.

Ok this part doesnt make sense, got a feeling there's a chunk missing.

It does highlight a question I came up with last week though.

If I run 10 different Virus and Malware removal tools in Safe Mode to clean viruses off machines and I have to do it in each user account to make sure I pick everything up, how on earth can anyone with more than one user account on a PC expect to keep it clean, unless they not only scan every day, but scan each use acount every day?

    Or am I missing something

I just left out a word. It should have said
If you ran 10 antivirus programs on your PC (even if you removed each one before installing the next) you would cause more problems for your PC by cluttering it up with hundreds if not thousands of left over registry keys and possibly some files that these program never uninstall. And even if you did, they may not find everything which is why the READ & RUN ME FIRST exists.

No one said you need to run in safe mode.

If you properly protect your PC to begin with and learn safe surfing procedures, you will have a lot fewer issues to worry about.
