I recently bought Mass Effect for my PC. I am having no luck with installing it and have visited several forums to get help. All of their advice I have tried exept rolling back my video card to a previous version. My video card is an nvidea geforce 9600gt. Does anyone know how to do this process?:confused

Well, grab their latest driver and save it to where you know it is, right click 'my computer'/ properties/ hardware/ device manager/ dbl clck display adapters/ uninstall and upon reboot you'll get a screen with large icons, find your driver and install and reboot again. Worked for my 9800GT yesterday.:)

Oops, missed the 'Mass 'Effect' part, sorry. Did anyone mention a version you should have installed? Also, since you just bought the card there should be no reason to install an earlier driver.:confused

Oops again, you have nothing to roll back to unless it's generic XP drivers which are just good for getting you going and not gaming to your card's potential. I'm really confused on the advice you've been given.

What is actually occurring is the Install Disc not being read properly, is there something wrong with the program installer? The Video Card drivers should have no impact on the success/failure of the installation of any program. Could the actual disc be faulty? Or do you have the program installed but can't get it to run. You need to be a little clearer in what the problem is.

It's possible it's improperly reading his specifications. I've had games that simply refused to install until the computer met their minimum specs.

    I offer this anecdotal possibility:
A few years ago, Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory could not be installed on my machine. My system ram, video specs etc were more than adequate to do the job. What I didn't know, at the time, was that UbiSoft added a different 'front end' program to the CD version that I owned. Consequently, my video card was using a different 'driver setup' for Splinter Cell which stopped me from viewing anything but a black screen.

As soon as I figured this out, I opened the video card's 'Performance and Quality Settings' property page and created a new profile for Splinter Cell's new 'front end' launcher program. Using the 'application controlled' checkbox for most settings allowed the launcher to set up it's own video card settings.

I'd forgotten about that. I'm used to ATI cards.
