I am trying to help out a lady in Sierra Leone (West Africa) with a Yahoo problem.

It reminds me of a minor PITA that happens every time I type in www.Google.com (and now also when I type in www.Yahoo.com never use Yahoo usually) both Google and Yahoo "help" me by going to their Australian sites. If I want Australia I will type in the bloody Aussie links (or select from My Favourites). If I want the American sites, how can I stop both from "helping" me. I realise that my laptop is setup for Australian defaults in Date, Time, Currency, etc.

Thanks plodr, there certainly won't be a SL page. :)

What I was getting at in my post is how to access Google USA and Yahoo USA and eBay USA if I want those particular websites. Currently everything is changed ot the OZ versions whether I want to (or not) :cry Bazza

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed here (furthest from it), but could not your "Regional Settings" be the problem?

I'm just asking - and trying to learn something myself (if I'm not able to help).

I know my regional settings are probably the root of the problem :-D but I am trying to get around that. Just another instance of MS overriding what "I" am trying to do on "my" PC, probably. I was hoping that I could have both options, Google Oz and Google USA, for example.

If I enter http://yahoo.opera.com/search it is automatically changed to http://au.search.yahoo.com/web?fr=opera2 whether I want it to or not.

This is all done with smoke and mirrors, sorry I mean cookies.

You need to send some cookies to the cookie monster.

It is very instructive to set your browser to prompt before accepting cookies,

    Go to Google

Set a search word eg rice

And see how many non Google sites want to place cookies on your machine.

    Ebay is even worse.

Thanks studiot. I run about 5 programs after every Net session (CCleaner, Cleanup!, AWC, Empty Temp Folders, MRU_Blaster, occasionally Spybot and Pest Patrol) to clean out everything. I don't think it is cookies as if I try to type www.google.com for the first time in a session, there will be no cookies pointing to Google (I think), and it still changes to the OZ link. Bazza

Ah, I didn't realize you wanted the US pages. Put in the IP rather than the
    words.
    google for me is 64.233.169.x where x is 103 0r 104, or 99 or 147

    yahoo/opera search is 213.236.208.95

Thanks, plodr. That certainly is one way to zero in on the USA sites. I am at present involved in an ebay bidding war so will try that later. Bazza
