    Hi,

I've run all of your recommended s/w and still see the adultfriendfinder ads show up on some web sites.

Attached are 3 of the logs of all of these recommended cleanings. Additional logs are in another thread.

I'll look forward to you guidance...

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Perhaps it is just related to the websites you are accessing. Your logs are all clean. What websites does it occur on? I assume this is when you are using FireFox since that appears to be the browser you are using?

But we do have a few details to take care of.

First did you put the below policies into effect

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.0_01
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2.20
Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only) <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

    Chasling,

Thanks for the reply; sorry for the late response...been away on business.

I did the remaining items you recommended and still get this ad thing from adultfriendfinder.

It occurs on the BitTorrentMonster site (http://www.btmon.com/) and it somehow knows I'm located in Wharton, NJ and posts photos of girls supposedly from there.

If I could get the entire adultfriendfinder nonsense to stop showing up, I'd appreciate finding out how. Otherwise, if it's not malware then I guess it's just a nuisance and no harm...no foul.

    Thanks afain!

It is just related to the sites you are on. This is common practice for those sites. And you IP address tells them approximately where you are located. This is no big deal either. Every site you accesss knows your IP address.

Don't go to torrent download sites or similar.;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Chasling,

Well thanks again for setting me straight about the torrent website simply reading my IP addy. I got all excited over nothing but do appreciate now knowing my computer is free of any and all infections. I'll make a Ghost image for safe keeping!

I did all of the steps in your final post and now have peace of mind.

    Regards,
    Bill
