I joined the forum not long before Gary died but had been an un registered visitor for a long time.

I remember the lounge as being a place of fun where we could joke about almost anything (within reason) and people did not get easily offended but now the forum has become a place where most come just to get malware fixed and then disappear without even saying thank you, maybe the world has changed and those two small words no longer exist.

I have a strange sence of humor (it almost got me banned) but am always ready to laugh at my self (check my signature) but that does not appear to be the case with a lot of the members now and i totally agree that a number have left for that reason which is a real shame.

It would be a great step backwards if the lounge could return to the fun days but that would require a mind change of certain members.(does not point at anyone in particular) http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/348_hippie_dude.gif

Nail and head, not every thread is a joke one, some I hope are geared to serious discussion, we used to have a mix of serious and fun threads, sadly too many end up as a thread more suited to the circus.

I love a mix and know when a thread needs a serious reply over one thats a fun one from the start, I have in part given up posting what could be good topical discussions and many PMs and Emails to me from other members have mentioned the same, they cannot be bothered to start a thread as its likely to end up a joke when all they wanted was some serious chat, hell I love the old threads that Star17 mentions as much as everyone who was party to them and hope we can get back to some of those types of threads, but not every thread needs to be turned into the same.

As mentioned I used to love the threads in which GT was heavily involved with, ignited the creative thoughts of many, so I really dont see why with the diverse populus of Majorgeeks as it stands now we cannot have some creative debate and discussions, their are some great views out their on Majorgeekland as we in part due to having some rules and yes the PG or more an 13/18 rating these days, we have a great diverse membership from 15s upwards, so a great mix of thoughts and outlook on life etc etc.

My personal viewpoint (one typed up on cold and flu meds... so I'll deny everything in the morning) and not and official one of Owners or Admins in general, they can make their own thoughts known if they wish too, But as mentioned do remember this forum is part of a business and not a hobby site as many forums are, so rules even though we hate them do apply as to make a site grow you need to appleal to the masses and not a niche market, some other larger forums also have stricter or different leways to certain things.

I agree that a good mix of threads is always preferable. I think it's the opposite of what you're saying though, Halo. I think there have been so many serious threads lately that no one has really been posting. People like to let off steam. Particularly with all the serious, depressing stuff that has been going on lately.

I'm not saying that all threads should turn into jokes. I think for the most part I haven't seen any serious threads turn into joking matters, or go off topic (ie, see the one about 'your tax dollars'). But I have to say that even in serious RL conversations I have with people (and if you haven't noticed, I don't shy away from them;)) there is generally humor thrown in.

I would also say that everyone here respects the fact that this board is for all ages. I don't think anyone wants that to change. It makes for a great atmosphere.

On a sidenote, I hope you get better soon. As far as you not posting...I'll just say I miss you and have noticed you have not been around lately. :(

That's quite a disturbing revelation Halo, by what you and what members have also said to you. I'm an MG rat as you know and I don't see it that way at all. Yes, people do make inappropriate comments at times (me included) and some go off on tangents(most of us, just reread the thread title :-D) but I find most of it interesting and if not, then I just don't post.

I agree with the statements made above, grow a thicker skin and ignore the idiotic posts.(not aimed at you Halo ;)). I want to see what other people think. I've had some great discussions here and I would hate to see that a few could disrupt the many.

Maybe I have not read most of the ones of late Laura to see if things have changed, really not had much free time of late ( posting has been sporadic at best, some days non some days loads ), due to work loads etc so going on what I have noticed over 12mth period.

Thank you, feeling much better now... and will be back to posting-fighting-fitness soon :)

Thick skins are great and I would run with this in that saying I have seen threads in which many say they can take alot in threads/debates but some are first to complain when their personal boundary is met, I'm fine with polictical, religious and other hot topical debates so long as they dont get personal, however this is never the case, always someone to overstep the boundaries and then not like the concequences.

Easy to ignore idiotic posts, but in an admin perspective on this *dons his admin cap* we have to review all and also take anyone who reports such a thread seriously ( yes some of the zdawg threads gained alot of banter and where funny as hell, while zdawg was game enough to take this from the members dishing it out, spare a thought for the other 13yr olds who may have been reading those threads and decided not to register on the forum?! that could be a missed opportunity for some great members to join ), not easy when you have to take into account alot of various members backgrounds, beliefs and ages, kinda guess I'm tippy toeing through loads of these, these days to let them run and see where they end up, while a few years back I would and I'll be honest would have deleted/locked them.

World is global, growing and changing, lets see if Majorgeeks can too, as I mentioned we have a diverse membership and grounds for a great number of both fun and intellectual threads, just need to know what is fun and what is not, plus above all respect your fellow members and their beliefs and thoughts, not saying you cannot disaprove and challenge them just challenge the idea and not the person, report a post if you feel its wrong or could cause offence.

So what you all doing in this thread, create some fun and interesting topics, TBH I toyed with the idea of a Topic of the Week thread, could be one week a fun topic for humour or could be a serious topic for debate the next... I know the need for fun and humour in our busy lives, but I know I also need my brain excercised too, hence sticking more with tech things over lounge, but for some of the reasons Star posted I didnt think many threads where fun ones.

Who needs lizards when we have lounge cats and their pesky furballs I keep tripping over!

Abby got a TON of the same :(

I'll leave it at this: good points by all, thick-skin is required in day-to-day life, not just on a message board. There's a decent genesis here for it to head back like it was (actually, the Hitchcock thread is getting quite fun) so who knows. I do know several of the old heads still lurk, so the plan would be to try and get them back into the fray eventually, even if just to say hi. Happy exudes happy...the world is what it is and there's little you can do, so don't let it eat you alive. Have fun here and use it as the escape it's better served as. And we can all work towards that common goal here: collecting enough money to buy Phantom some software so it doesn't look like he Photochops with a machete :-D

*looks around* Furballs, what furballs? The one I left this morning was all cleaned up before you arrived (hope they hid the evidence well) *smiles* Must be another feline scampering around here somewhere, maybe check the new members list? *looks innocent* I was busy trying to organize MGs BB Removal and Lighten Up Retreat.

It's tough getting all that buckshot out of my hinney Laura but working on it. Think Adryn hit me once with that pellet gun of his awhile back too. Can't open the Retreat until I have a buckshot free hinney (have to set a good example and all). *grins*

May have been removed from forum, but someone popped it behind the forum backroom door, so I tripped over it, becoming messy in their.. damm sure I noticed Lord Lucan and a few old members having a beer in the corner, or was that TimW, it was dark ;)

Well said Halo. You said pretty comprehensively all I was trying to say. One has to consider all p.o.v.'s before hitting the Submit Reply button - enough said.

LoL, yeah it wasn't one of my better efforts :p. Blurry eyes, a shaky hand, and a Black & Decker chainsaw don't make for a pretty sight.:eek

Plenty of other forums I can--and do--rant and rave and cuss and yap about what a crazed old outlaw I think I am: this is an excellent site, with lots of good people, and about all *I've* been told--in a friendly way--was not to bs when I didn't know what I was talking about, and not to cuss on here: both of which I sadly am prone to in real life...and on other forums...but I'ma tryin' ... :)

I came for the malware removal--twice--stayed because I like the people and the info...and I agree w/post that there are young kids on here too...and old kids... :cool
