    Hi StudioT

Nice link, but I would have to throw in a caveate in that be very careful what you are about to delete from the guides given above as not every system is the same and you may delete files you need so those guides I would imagine are more aimed at the intermediate~expert user ( didnt full read them all, as tempus fugit ) so personally I would advise anyone to read and reread it, if in doubt at what to delete, then do a search on the file or leave alone.

Later OSs do have loads of legacy files and non-needed apps/files I'd totally agree, but still I have seen some kill an OS from following guides! SO backupbackupbackup before attempting, but tweaking yoru OS can be a rewarding excersise and you learn much more on how it works and what does what.

I would be curious how this compares to the Black Widow Guide.

    Well please tell us.

    As regards deleting

My preferred method is to rename first and delete at a later date once you have confirmed that nothing nasty happens.

This can be a real pain in Vista, taking ownership and granting one's self rights etc.

If its Black Vipers guide then that only covers in the main services list and various degrees of safe-ness in what "can" be turned off.

I agree with you on backup or rename, however that persons guide does not in the few I read, mention backup or renaming files before deleting, while I just wanted to warn folk about here if they decided to follow the guide steps. Nothing wrong with slimming down the OS and whats mentioned is fine, but their are too many variables to cover when tweaking an OS.

Have you used these guides StudioT at all?

Actually as they have had many hits would love to know if anyone has and did they complete all steps or bauk at a specific part, or even if a OS failure or app failure happened as result of the steps.
