This is your audio driver. I haven't had a chance to find a chipset driver yet.
(They don't list it on the HP site)
M2E WDM Audio Driver for Windows 2000/XP

If this doesn't get your sound back::
Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers.
Upload the report as an attachment.
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Now come back here to your thread.
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box (near the bottom of the page), scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box.

Post an Everest hardware report by following Musksnipe's instructions posted above. This will enable us to track down your driver. Also, right click My Computer, select Properties, click the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager button. If you have any exclamation points ! or question marks ? or red X's, please post what is listed next to them.

(just curious... any particular reason you posted the same message 3 times in 20 minutes yesterday?)

You need to attach the report to a post here. I looked carefully at all the above posts and no report is attached to any of them. Go into the device manager again and click the little "+" plus sign next to "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". You're looking for a 'brand name' like "RealTek" or "SoundMax" for example. If you see no names like this or "Legacy" then the sound driver is probably not installed correctly. If you do see a name like one of these, then the driver IS installed and the problem may be elsewhere (maybe something is muted somewhere).

Anyway- please re-read Musksnipe's directions for attaching the Everest report.

I think I have it attached now thaks for helping out. I looked at the Device Manager this is what I see,

    Audio Codecs
    Conexant 23880 Video Capture(Blackbird NTSC Dual-Input)
    Conexant 2388x Crossbar Dual Input
    Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder (Dual-Input)
    Conexant 2388x Tuner (Philips 1236 MK3)
    Creative SB Audigy 2
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    Video Codece

I have put down all I have letter for letter not sure how come the first and last ones are spelled like that.

I am sending the report by email it keeps saying that its is to big you should be getting it by now

:confused By email? You don't have my email address, or musksnipe's email address, and even if you did, that isn't what we need you to do. One more time, follow these steps EXACTLY:
If it is too big, compress it with WinZIP or use the built-in Windows XP compressed folder wizard.

If you have the speakers plugged in to the on board audio, you will have no sound. Look further down the back of the PC and plug in to the green port on the sound card. You have a PCI sound card, a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2. That's why the HP drivers didn't work. If you had correctly provided an Everest report a long time ago as requested, we would have known this.

    Hi

To be honest the full Everest Hardware report has alot of junk that is rarely needed like port, Sys Driver Offsets and IRQ references, to spindle speeds of HDs and every video resolution size known to man etc.. which makes this a large text file, so a cut down but equally helpful report is the System Summary and it should be of small enough size to attach in text format as mentioned.

IIRC this PC uses the usual HP/Compaq fav of the P4SD-LA Motherboard ~ Intel based 865G Chipset so that Chipset Driver can be found here

Install Chipset then Audio driver supplied from Muskie above.

    musksnipe Guest

Wow, a lot went on here while I was moving stuff. LOL

Thanks for suppling the chipset, Halo. ;)
(I like the full hardware related report over the summary, only because there are things listed there, that SOMETIMES aids in clearing a stubborn driver problem, although there are many unnecessary things there, too.)

    @ akflyfisherman
Here again is the chipset driver Halo suggested.

I have uploaded the Everst Report for you to view, I did load the chip set and the driver and still no sound, and yes the sound system is pluged in and pluged into the green plug in the back of the computer, after I loaded the chipset I rebooted and after i loaded the sound card I rebooted and then I tryed to see if I had sound aand still ablank, not sure what is going on. and i would like to thank all of you for helping out with this. By the way thanks for the chipset and sound driver.

This is one of those times when I would like a full Everest report, but we get through this without it. LOL

Has Creative SB Audigy 2 always been there or just after the install of the driver I suggested?
Do you know if you have been using SoundBlaster for audio?
Did you happen to install a Creative driver?
Do you have what looks 2 sets of audio jacks on the back of your PC?
If by some chance, we have to unistall these drivers:
    Conexant 23880 Video Capture(Blackbird NTSC Dual-Input)
    Conexant 2388x Crossbar Dual Input
    Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder (Dual-Input)
    Conexant 2388x Tuner (Philips 1236 MK3)

Do you have the install disc for them?

The reason for the questions is that it looks like you have an add-on card, but I can't be sure because, if you have installed a Creative driver, it could show up in your report and mislead us.
Second, the audio driver I found for your PC is not labled as to what type it is.
And third, it's possible that those Conexant drivers are interfering with your install.

Please answer all of my questions and we should be able to get this straightened out.

I think I got it to zip this time, as far as I know the Creative SB Audigy 2 has been on from the time I purchased this, I am still looking over the rest of the reply. I do not have any diskss the were all on my hard drive and I have never had a disk to put them on, the onlly thing I remember is it is a back up or reboot disk. I think I was using sound blaster. I do not know were the creative driver came from. This cp had a lot of stuff on it when I got it.

Ok, it looks like you do have a Creative SoundBlaster card.

First, you'll have to go into your BIOS.
Restart your PC, tap the F2 key (before Windows starts). Keep tapping it, until you get into Bios.
Go into Advanced or Intergrated Peripherals and look for your audio. Make sure it is set to Disabled. That will cause your PC to use the SoundBlaster card.
Now check in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab.
Set Creative as your Default sound.

If this doesn't work, you may have to open your PC and take the card out and reseat it, to be sure it is seated properly.

I'm new here but, wouldn't you select all, copy and paste from the report?
Also, check the speakers for sound by touching the tip of the green line to ground. This should give you some A/C hummmm.

Good question and welcome to Majorgeeks.com ricardini :)

We ask that people post logs as an attachment, rather than an inline log, for various reasons. Browse around and read some of the many threads here and you will soon pick up on the way things go around here. If you go wrong, someone will be there to help steer you in the right direction too.

Back over to you guys Musky and akflyfisherman ;)

I restarted with F2 and then F8 to get into Advanced mode, this is what I looked at in that mode,

    -Enable boot logging
    -Enable VGA Mode
-Last known configuration (most recent setting that worked)
-Directory services restore mode (windows domain controllers only)
    -Debugging Mode
-Disable Automatic restart on system failure

if it is the vga one how do i make it disabled, as you can tell I am new to all this and do not fully understand how you do your little quarky things for now all I want is my computer to have sound, I think the petty way someone responds to you email request sould not matter as long as you are both working on fixing the problem, I am not a computer geek by any means, and I have been trying to get all the info I can but you must also see it from my side when you leave a message for me you leave a lot of steps out that I must try to figure out making it not so easy to understand, I am doing my best to responde how you want, if you want it any better then please do not leave any more steps out in your response fair is fair.

That tells you the speakers work, but not if your card or onboard sound is working.
Did you check out any of the things in my last post?

    akflyfisherman Private E-2

yes I did as I stated the list of things when I hit F2 then F8 to get into advants mode, not sure what to do after that, as far as the list you sent I did tell you that all reboot disks and so forth are on my hard drive and I have never had a disk to remove them, I use usb and a 300gb backup storage seagate I use once a month, I would like to disable the sound and audio card but not sure is their a way for you to remotely get on my cp and look at this?

What you have to do is set your BIOS to Disabled.
Install the Creative driver, (the one I never linked you with)
    Sound Blaster Audigy series Driver
You may even have to open your case and make sure the card is seated properly.

If that doesn't work, set BIOS to Enabled.
Install this driver: M2E WDM Audio Driver for Windows 2000/XP

We may have to wait a couple of days to get an answer from that mod.

I did restart and disabled the sound then restated my cp, I did install the supplyed like a few days ago but the did not work sould I reinstall them one more time? I never had the sound card out of this cp never touched it.

Yes, set your BIOS for the Creative card and then reinstall the driver.
It's possible that if the BIOS was set wrong, that the driver didn't actually install.

Now, if I would only check my email LOL.

  33. akflyfisherman

    akflyfisherman Private E-2

I did disable it again then I reinstalled the driver all over but still no sound and yes I restarted the cp, I think the next thing is to shut down and make sure my card is seated then restart, after that I dont know what to do

Sometimes, they jiggle loose. Of course it may always end up being a card gone bad.
I sent you some instructions, so we can pin this down.

  35. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    We got the problem solved.
alkyfisherman set his BIOS to disabled, which allowed his SoundBlaster card to be accesible, instead of the onboard sound.
I took a look at his Device Manager. It showed two sound drivers, Realtek and Creative (SoundBlaster).
I uninstalled the Realtek through Device Manager, because it wasn't showing in Add/Remove programs, which is the best way to uninstall it.
Then I updated the driver and he re-booted.......... with sound. :)

You should write down your BIOS settings for future ref.
The EAX chip from sound blaster has always beed very demanding of it's resources. The EAX is also an address on the cpu. All of my Sound blasters are like that.
I am converting to USB KVM switches with a usb audio sys at the input where the mouse and keyboard go. I put a powered usb hub un the input so when I switch to different computers, I get the same audio (from only one 3 dollar audio sys). The new USB audo systems are using C-Media Chips and don't confilict.
Good luck and may your troubles be only lessons and your pleasures be true.
