I am about to give up and have our computer guy at work take a crack at this, but am trying to save a few bucks by doing this myself.

I started with all of the "READ & RUN ME" first and got as far as downloading SAS, Spybot, etc.

The problem is I can't run any of them.

I am sure I have some version of the XP Antispyware trojan as I have the blue screen and XP Antispyware pop-ups.

So when I click on SAS or Spybot on my desktop absolutely nothing happens, so I can't even get those running to get this stuff off my computer.

If it is extremely complicated, just let me know as it's probably beyond my capabilities, but if there is a way to get these programs running, please help!

    Welcome to MG's!

Why can't you run them? What happens?

Start by downloading and running ComboFix first, this may allow you to run the others. We can address the other issues one at a time but first let's try running CF.

See the thread below and follow the procedure for your OS to download and run ComboFix and how to attach the log.

Hi - thanks for the quick reply! When I click on SAS or S&D nothing happens. The icon will highlight but the program will not run. I tried CF too and the icon highlighted and I got a box asking if I wanted to run the program. When I clicked "run" - ditto. Nothing happened. These removal tools will not run.

Try to download and run MGTools.exe, this is very critical in removing the malware from your system.

Let me know of any problems/errors running MGTools.

Cool - I think that totally worked. I was able to run it and it removed 60 items or so. The small red "X" on my lower right screen with the pop-ups is also gone!

    Thank you SO much!! :cool

So should I now start over with the "Read and Run Me" section to see if I can now run SAS and Spybot? I wanted to check here first before I did anything else.

I would recommend it so we can confirm you're clean. It's up to you but I would recommend it.:)

OK, I'll post some logs once I figure out how (I am computer-lame). XP reloaded on my computer today but I did the same as last time and now the pop-ups are gone. Something tells me it's still on my PC somewhere.

What do you mean by "XP reloaded", did you reinstall the OS? Did you format and reinstall or just install over the current install?
