    Mimsy's new gadget made me start this. I didn't want to hijack hers, so here it is. :-D

    I want a Kindle. I've asked for it for my birthday, but who knows if hubby will listen.rolleyes It would be really nice for travelling instead of lugging all the books in my suitcase I think I'm going to read.

    :confused I thought you had those already. If not, sounds like a good Christmas gift.

    You need to drink your tea faster, Kes. LOL Or just switch to Ice Tea :-D

    Nice, Mims. Would go with your new MP3 player. It would be great on an airplane. I didn't look at the price...maybe a good gift for my kids?

    Those things are unbelievable. I would think the surface would have to be protected.

    I've got two of the USB cup warmers as presents Kes they are a complete waste of time just not enough juice through the USB :p

    There's too many to list I already have a couple of lasers but I wouldn't mind a burning laser,you can't do much with them to warrant the price but they are so cool;

    I'd love a Geiger counter,in fact I'm prolly gonna get one soon;

    A decent metal detector,I've got a crappy one from Maplin "Radioshack" that doesn't work that well.

    I was weary of the bomb growing up but more fascinated in the power and mystery of them really:)

    Radiation has always fascinated me I'd juts go around checking how much radiation was coming from everything:-D and build up a collection of radioisotopes:)

    EDIT that kindle looks really cool they reviewed a bunch of them of the gadget show and I think the apple version came out on top but only for ergonomincs and style I remember them saying the book sample was the only problem.

    Nice...thanks for the link! I think they were giving options to the kindle since it's not available in the UK for some reason (probably because of their free wireless download feature). I love amazon and love the idea of no fees to download them and they really aren't that much...$10.

    Sidenote...I love your accents! :-D

    Sadly not Laura, just on my wish list. If anyone spent that much on a Christmas gift for me I would probably throw a loop tbh. Prefer to work hard and earn my toys than have materialism at Christmas :)

    The price is a bit steep for the kiddies.

    Supposedly the one on the right is the new one. I just want the Kindle. I didn't know there was going to be a Kindle 2. From googling it looks like it's going to be bigger. Besides my birthday is in 5 days, so I want it for that. LOL

    Laura, my friend has a Kindle and he loves it. He plays mp3s and uploads Word docs to his. I saw one while on an airport tram in San Francisco last year and the lady said she liked how she could carry 20 books with her.

    I trust you get your b-day wish!

    That's good to hear BOOM. I've seen a lot of really positive reviews for it on Amazon. I love the idea of no backlight as that can really be a strain to the eyes.

    As far as my b-day...no subtle hints from me...I emailed the link to my husband. If I don't get it, you'll be hearing about it. LOL

    It really is a neat thing to have. I haven't gotten any books yet because I have a bunch of real books to read that I've bought. I'm still in the playing around stage.

    Btw...this thing even has free wireless internet! :dancer It's not great internet, but it's there. LOL

    I'll be honest... when I read the thread topic, I immediately ventured to make my post. I will venture back and read the thread after I post, but the gadget I really REALLY want is the transparent ear phone you see FBI agents wear. I have no idea what they're called, but I would really like to have one for my handheld.

    Oh, and if this is a Santa thread...

    Thanks, Santa!:clap

    I've never seen them other than in movies. Are they actual gadgets?

    Hi:

    Yes, these are real thingies. The Police force here all have them. Its like a transparent hose leading from the ear, around the front, over the top and behind the ear, then looks like a telephone coil going down the next at the back where it clamps onto the uniform shirt. I think at that point there is the splicer thing which then has another hose that goes to a microphone on the lapel of the jacket. Its sort of difficult to explain, but very kewl to see. Mind you, they're transparent so I guess one really has to be looking for it. But when I see an officer talking into the lapel of his jacket, I look toward his ear, and there it is, the gizmo I want Santa to find. :)

    Thanks for the link. I'll check it out now.

    Nope, just one. I don't think I can plug two phones into the single jack on the handset portable radio.

    I looked at your link and didn't see anything close. I did a google search and came up with something pretty close though:

    http://images.secure2u.com/36584/Proc/Full/2505355.jpg

    I'll have to wait until my fancy shmancy handheld arrives from Hong Kong to see what outlets it has. Some of the best radio equipment is made in Hong Kong so I am really looking forward to getting it.
