System Info: For Installation Of 1GB RAM

I would like to have an extra 1GB RAM installed.

I'd rather not attempt it myself. I'm wondering how long I'd be without a computer if I took it into the shop? I'm dropping into a place tomorrow to check out their prices and was thinking if I could bring in my computer info, I could make an appointment and hopefully receive the computer back within that day of the appointment.

Is there a program that I could use that would print out the necessary info that I could give to the shop while I'm checking out prices?

Or what if I had a tech come to my home, I suppose that would be expensive.

    Thanks
    :)

How about some computer specs? That would help heaps. :-D

Why do you think you need an extra gig?
    Desktop or Laptop?
    How old is it?
    Make and Model?
What operating system? Vista or XP or other?
How much Ram is installed already?
What do you mainly use your computer for? Games? Desktop Publishing? Searching the Internet? Email mainly?
    YouTube? FaceBook? Downloading music, etc.?

    Ooops, sorry! lol
    :-D

    Desktop
    4 years old
Was assembled at an out of town shop (ex bf wanted to play games on it, but never did), not "out of a box".
    XP
    1 GB RAM currently
Mainly used for e-mail, surfing (use FireFox with lots of tabs open at once) and some word documents.
Facebook, StumbleUpon, YouTube (if I receive a link in an e-mail forward), sometimes download music. I guess a little bit of everything?

I know the computer is clean, another shop did a bunch of maintenance for me and they found nothing, and said they didn't have the appropriate RAM, it would take a couple more days to get it, "if they get the right one".

Sometimes the computer just seems to lag, especially with lots of tabs open and multitasking. Figured the extra RAM would give it a boost.

This link will tell you what your puter needs/wants. Of course you don't need to purchase from them. Just "Scan Your System". http://www.crucial.com/#

BTW: I installed the additional RAM myself. If I can do it, so can you. ;)

PS: I had a techie come home to install a new HD on my PC and it did cost a bundle of $$ for a home visit. How does $90 per hour (minimum 1 hr) sound? *eek*

    Problem...
I downloaded the scanner, but they couldn't find a match, and they want me to manually add in the following...
    Manufacturer
    Product Line
    Model
I don't have the answers. The computer was thrown together by someone else.

I wonder what percentage of MG members have an up-to-date sig of their PC specs? This is the first time, in going on for 5 years, that I have looked at the OP specs, only because you indicated that the OP had specs posted. If there was some indicator next to a nickname that a sig was in existence then I might look for it, otherwise it justs takes twice as long to help someone on the off chance that their PC specs are there. My $0.02. :-D
Hell, I can't even see how to edit mine.

PS: Just remembered how to edit my profile. I also found 5 members who want to be friends of mine. I wonder how long they've been there waiting? :-D Baz

I just spent the past 10min poking around Everest and couldn't find anywhere where it details the type of RAM installed. I also used PC Wizard 2008 and found it almost immediately. I attached a screen shot below. In the left pane, click the icon I put a red box around; then look in the right pane and look for the item I boxed in red. I underlined in blue the most important details. If (for some reason) the exact type of RAM isn't listed, use the info from the right pane for 'Main Board' and post it here, and we'll let you know what type of RAM you need...
    :-D

On my PC, the SPD option comes up blank... :confused Weird LOL So, don't keep us in suspense.... what kind of RAM do you have?!??!

    Hi!

I had the extra 1 GB RAM installed, I now have 2 GB RAM total.
Where should I see the most improvement?
    Thanks!

if that was indeed why you were experiencing your slowdowns....if there were other things going on, then extra ram won't help much....you might want to try and check out these things to help "tune up" windows:

Actually, this is good to know.
I do find the computer a tad slow (or I'm just impatient, lol). I've scanned for viruses/adware/spyware and it's clean. Wasn't sure if the RAM would help with this as well or not. I'll follow the above link, thanks!

lmao, so sorry about the confusion I have caused! lol. I guess it did kinda turn around a bit, lol.
    :-D

You're right, my original question was not about slowdowns, however when it was brought up, eureka, good question! lol
    ;)

It's all good. I love this forum.
