Remembrance day

Many countries have a special day to remember those that fell in their wars; America has Veterans Day, while France has Armistice Day. The British commemorate those who fought, and are still fighting, in wars for their country on Remembrance Day.

Common British, Canadian, South African, and ANZAC traditions include two minutes of silence at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month

The British Remembrance Day is always held on the 11 November. This is the day that World War One ended in 1918, when the armistice was signed in Compiègne, Northern France, at 5am. Six hours later, the fighting stopped

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

 

Yup wolf, we also have our rememberance ceremonies on the 11th. I thought it was only Canadians that sported the poppy but I see that I'm wrong.

As a child I remember poppies being sold on every street corner, they were yellow.
I have not seen any in years, too bad.

It is sad to remember all who have past defending our lands.

It is even sader for the disabled who also fought, sacrificed, yet are not remembered.
The origination I was giving too for so many years turned out to be somewhat of a scam.
The vets got 25 cents out of the dollar, the elderly man who ran it stated they wouldn't get that if not for him.
Let's remember them also. God knows they're multiplying daily

yeah wildwolf we here in Australia wear the poppy also but its only 1 minute silence at 11:00 am.

Sadly there are only 12 surviving veterans from world war one world wide.

Being ex miliatry (Royal Marines) any kind of military music is a pleasure for me but "Last post" always brings a lump in the throat.

In 1966 at Winston Churchills funeral it was amazing to see the honour guard of hardened Royal Marines standing to attention with tears on their cheeks when the silver bugles played last post.

 

Now that does sound amazing.
