I use XP and I have gone to control panel--> user accounts--> change way users log on/off options

I am the only user of my computer
this says there are only 2 ways to log on when I turn on my computer
    either
WECLOME SCREEN, where I can choose my account name(and type my password if I have one)
or CLASSIC LOGON PROMPT where I have to type my user name and password

Right now it's on the classic, where I have to type in OWNER and no pasword and it works(loads XP)

I just want to be able to turn on my computer for the day and while it loads, go somewhere else.... how can I do this?

To turn the Welcome screen on or off (Care of Windows Help Menu)
You must have a computer administrator account on a computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a stand-alone computer to turn on or turn off the Use the Welcome screen feature. Logging on at the Welcome screen is not available on computers that are members of a network domain.

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click Change the way users log on or off.
    Do one of the following:
To specify that users log on to the computer using the Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen check box.
A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or her user account name on the Welcome screen. If a password is assigned to the account, the user is prompted to type it.

To specify that users log on to the computer without using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome screen check box.
The Welcome screen will no longer appear when you start the computer.
To log on to the computer, type your user name (and password, if you have one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box.

    Notes

To open User Accounts, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
Fast User Switching is available only when the Welcome screen is turned on. For more information, click Related Topics.

right, there is no check by the the Welcome screen check box.
so the user screen Should be off, but it's not,
so now I get a prompt when I start my computer and have to change the log on from ADMINSTATOR to owner
    and there is no password

that's why I made this thread
I just want it to turn on! I don't want to have to type or click anything going from hitting the ON button to being able to use my computer!

    Try this one
Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
    option, and click Ok

Buggabear is correct. Major Attitude's link has a step of highlighting a user name but it might not be necessary for a single user. Just posting it in case it is necessary. :)

    huh?
I don't use .net at all, I am just logging on to my own computer! and I don't wanna, I just want it to turn on, when I turn it on, and not make me type or click anything!

.NET is a programming protocol that is installed on most Windows computers as many programs need it to run. The logon bit is buggy at times. So go through the steps even if the "Users must use password.." is not checked.

In control panel>Users set to Welcome Screen. Then in control userpasswords2 highlight Owner and make sure the box for "Users must use paswrd" is unchecked and hit Apply. In the next screen make sure Owner is showing and password is blank. Restart.

    I can't.
    1st the box is unchecked
    2nd I can't highlight, everything is brown? and I can't highlight crap

Sorry, like I said it is buggy. Control Userpasswords2> check the box to "Users must use password", Highlight Owner. Click Apply. Uncheck the box "Users must use" click Apply. Now you should get a screen making Owner the default login click OK.

yes, now the OWNER is in fact the default login
which is great? sorta, I still have to click return to get XP to load up, so I can run my computer
is there a way to avoid this? so I can just turn on my computer and it load XP and come back after turning it on and it's all set to use?

Try switching to the Welcome screen in ControlPanel>Users>Switch the way users log on

    yup,
    that did it
at least when I hit restart, XP just loaded and I was able to sit and use it

Good! The logon bit has always been buggy for me. I set my PC to "Show Welcome screen when coming out of standby" and without fail it stops working after a few weeks. I have to go back and play around with Apply and whatnot to get it working again. I've yet to figure out a logical explanation.

I think you'll be ok since I've never had the logon without password settings get changed by themselves.

I turned on my computer today, came back and it was stuck in the "WECLOME" screen.. no icons, ctrl-alt-delete did nothing, my mouse worked, right click did nothing
I restarted it and it worked.

any thoughts about wtf happened and how to avoid that?
