For the last 6 months, we have apparently been getting 'Estimated' readings for our water. A guy came out and checked everything out and found there was Nothing wrong with our meter. Did that change the readings? No! I get another notice about having someone come out.

I make the appointment for 8am-10am this morning. It is now 11:55am. Almost 2 hours beyond the latest time! Are they here??? No. What is their answer to my call?

We had a lot of 8-10am appointments? WTH? Then what's the purpose of them?

The irrational part of me wants to just leave. The rational part is saying 'but then you'd have to reschedule'.

Ugh!!!! I'm now on hold with the water company trying to get an answer on time.

They give ridiculous ranges for time frames and then still can never manage to get there in them.

I have a cousin who always tell any utility that he works for them.. say you move and the phone company tells you it's going to be 3 days before they can hook up the new line, he always says, come on, I work for Verizon too.. I know that's a crock.. It usually works.. LOL not as though some receptionist can argue the statement.

I hate when anyone tells you something, and they know it can't be done.

The guy was outside my house checking the meter at 10:30. 45 minutes BEFORE the customer service told me they were on their way!

Now he coming back out right now because I told them I needed to talk to him as he got the same results as the guy who came out a month ago.rolleyes

The guy is here and on top of everything he just lied to me and told me he knocked on the door. I have literally been in my kitchen all morning (organizing cabinets). He told me he heard the dog bark. My dog does not bark...ever.

    You go Laura

TBH there is nothing worse than a service dept that does not hold their agreement and timing of appointments up, if they are calling in person and their engineer is likely to miss the appt time then they should call you to let you know, I know there has been many a time I have wasted a whole day waiting for folk to call. Actually should be a discount in your bill if they miss a time slot!

But there maybe nothing wrong with the meter, but their guesstimated usage is likely off, i know UK ultilities tend to up the estimation to cover themselves rather than underestimate, which is why if we do miss the meter reader, we have a written record of what we know was on the meters at that time. Generally we have not had issue.

as they have made you wait Laura, what i would do is using the time waiting for them to turn up write down all the questions you want answering on whats up and just keep them answering, if they cannot answer you on any point ask them to call someone who can ;)

Edit: Thats a usual reply, very good friend of mine works with delivery companies and thats the usual one they say, means they late and decided to lie, pity it was not customer service calling to say that was the issue in that the guy turned up with no answer as your reply is "what colour was the door or what was the knocker like?"

    Hope you get it sorted

Jeez Laura, service tech people call me first to make sure I'm there while they're at another job before wasting their time coming here. It's usually a 4 hour window. I don't know what to say.

    It's all sorted. Thanks all.

It still annoys me that the guy lied to me. He did come back though and actually fix the problem.

@Halo...apparently since my meter was replaced about 6 months ago, the people in the van couldn't get a reading from the street. We do go by actual readings now around here. This guy replaced the meter and put it up higher on our wall in the basement and tested it. It can now be read from the street. Hopefully, this is the end of this.

    Service calls basically stink.

Good stuff Laura hope all is fixed and sorted now.

We still have folk on foot come around here, no reading from the comfort of a van!

    funny water story)

When I moved back to Ojai, bought a house, the seller told me to be sure and call all the utilities so they never get shut off.

When it came to the water company there were like five (for that tiny area),
called one, she asked for the address, then informed me they didn't service that area. That went on and after about the third call the voice was familiar, turns out it was one woman answering for all the companies. I asked, "you couldn't just tell me which one to call"? She kinda giggled, I thought it so absurd I couldn't even get angry. Oh and it wasn't an answering service. rolleyes

Our water is a flat rate but the gas and electric are transmitted directly to the office. Pretty cool, saves meter readers from angry dogs.
