I have WINDOWS XP PRO SP2.

I have installed over a 100s program in my IBM THINKCENTRE 2005.

I cannot figure out what's stopping these 2 TWO SITES THAT CANT BE OPENED.

In my laptop I can, right this minute...

    VIRALURL.COM

    CJ.COM

Please your URGENT help, I work home,

    Thanks so much,
    Maggie

If you have immunized your hosts file with things like MVP hosts and Spybot, those sites will be blocked as they have been found to host malicious content or advertise for malilcious programs.
If you want to you can remove those entries from your hosts file, but there's a good reason why they are in there in the first place.

I just opened in IE7 viralurl.com in my laptop OK right this minute!

and cj.com in my laptop just now, they both worked excellent.

I cannot open at all viraurl in my pc ibm

and cj.com in my ibm appears as in text mode lets say, not like html.

I work with firefox and ie8 in my ibm but for over 1 year I cannot open here these two sites.

What is the solution I just dont know, help me pls !!

    Thanks,
    Maggie

    Mark:
Then I guess you dont have the latest version of spybot and MVP hosts.
I have cj.com present under the MVP hosts section, and viralurl.com under the spybot section.

Maggie, instead of removing spybot s&d completly, its better to remove those entries you do not want in your hosts file.
    Go to this folder:
    C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Right-click on the file "hosts", select "properties" and make sure read-only is unchecked.
Then open the "hosts" file in notepad and remove these lines
    Code:
    127.0.0.1	cj.com
    127.0.0.1	www.cj.com
    127.0.0.1	www.viralurl.com
    127.0.0.1	viralurl.com
Save and close, then re-add the read-only flag.

Again, if you find those entries there they have been added for a reason.
I would advice you to stay away from those sites unless you have a very good reason not to.

The hosts.backup cannot be saved as, and be replaced as text txt mode.

    how will i save it?

I fixed the 1st host file open in notepad, ok but I cannot replace and save the other ones.

You are only supposed to to edit the one called "hosts". Thats one file only.
Leave "hosts.backup" and the rest of the files in that folder alone.

in firefox i had some addons and the site was nt working well

    NOSCRIPT FOR FIREFOX, ADBLOCK, FLASHBLOCK

i cannot see the header and footer of the viralurl company now.

In IE8 i cannot get it out of the RESTRICTED SITES,

although i added it in TRUSTED SITES but put a https to add it, otherwise it cant.

How can I fix these minor problems please?

You can (temporarily) disable an add-on in firefox by going to Tools->Add-ons, selecting the add-on in question and clicking "disable", to see which one is causing the unwanted result.

To add a "regular" http site to trusted zone you'll have to uncheck "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" before you add the site.

Know that if you add a site to your trusted zone it will pretty much have complete access to your computer. This is a security risk.
Adding a site that has been blocked by Spybot to your trusted zone sounds like a very bad idea, but this is of course up to you.
