[MS WinXP Home SP2; MS Office XP; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz Pentium III; 385MB RAM; AVG Free Version 8.0.175 270.8.4/1754; spybot S&D; ad-aware2008 (aaw2008.exe); cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media Player.]

Hello, on Lavasoft forum's good advice I deleted my free Lavasoft program and reinstalled in order to fix the problem that it didn't delete ALL my infected objects at the end of scanning (I re-posted there but no answer). Then it did again the same thing. I rebooted and scanned again. Now it shows in a different window that it caught one infected file. I clicked on "Heal", one of 4 options, and thought that's the end of it. On the following day I scanned again and this is what I got:
I rebooted and scanned again and by now I have 44 infected objects! I clicked again to remove them and I get this: "Unable to remove the file. The file will be removed when you restart your computer." I immediately restarted it but can't tell whether or not it removed them all as the infections continue to accumulate.

I again scanned on the following day and it deletes only the MRUs leaving intact the cookies, etc. I clicked "Finish" and it tells me: "There are unhandled objects. Do you still want to finish?" I have no other option than "Yes".

Someone please help me in this merry-go-round? Thanks ever so much! Adela

This is not a malware problem. It is a problem with Ad-Aware or some other issue within your OS. However you can run the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide cleaning procedure if you with to properly check your PC for malware.

NOTE: Cookies and MRUs are not problems so don't waste anytime on them. You should consider using SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (both free) instead of Ad-Aware.

Thanks so much chaslang for the arsenal of information on this difficult matter! I'm still reading it as I'm kind of a beginner and I intend to follow all the steps, but meantime I found there something I could do right away and will appreciate your opinion?:

I wonder if you/anyone came across the following strange files I have in my Add/Remove and never saw before? Some are Microsoft, the others come with info that I don't recognize, and some without any info. I'd love to delete them all but afraid to cause even more headaches:

    Active desk
    Intel RSX 3D
Microsoft Compression Client Pack 1.0 for Windows XP
    Microsoft Easy Assist
Microsoft Office XP Pro with Front Page (doesn't let me remove it, I no longe rhave it)
Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature 1.0
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803)
Windows Media format 11 Runtime (I have Windows Media Player 11...not enough?)

    Thanks so very much!!! Adela

They are all normal and should not be removed. If you are having issues with things that you already uninstalled still showing up, this is a topic for the Software Forum. But you should possibly run this: Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Thanks. I will not touch them but I never saw them there before. Also thanks for the utility link, but after reading about it...I better not do it since I may mess up my computer even more... lol!

I have one item I know I don't have and can't remove, so I'll go to the software forum as you kindly suggested, but is it here at majorgeeks?

    Thank you again! Adela
