I have Sun Java Version 6 Update 10 (build 1.6.0_10-beta-b25)

After reading above from Nick about the control panel and how to update I find that my Sun Java is missing the update tab. Is this ok?? :confused

Thanks for all the important info all

What the heck is it? Should I take it off? Will this mess up my Java settings if I remove it?

To make a long story shorter, while finally getting caught up on MG's revised maintenance and cleaning procedures doing the Java removal/update chapter, I have manually removed the old Java files, but why is "JavaRa" (35mb) over twice the file size of "JRE 6 update 10" (15mb)?

.... JavaRa seems to be the wiser choice but I downloaded a Java uninstaller "unmsjvm.exe" from here (MG) or from a linked article, is the "unmsjvm.exe" uninstaller safe to use as a safety, and then just install the smaller "JRE 6 update 10" file?

    Is either option OK?

Sorry if this is considered "Highjacking" a thread ... please move if appropriate.

JavaRa is only 15.4 KB while JRE 6 update 10 is listed as 15.4 MB
The "unmsjvm.exe" is probably for Microsoft's OLD Java Virtual Machine removal only I guess. Sun Java has been the only "player" of Java for years since Microsoft hasn't supported Java anymore for many years. ;) Don't be surprised if you see the Sun Java v 6_10 increase in size (in the Add/Remove Programs once you've downloaded and installed it.

I don't know if msjvm.exe would also delete Sun's Java. I doubt it, so I'd use JavaRa as well just to be sure.

PS: My PC is over 4 years old and came pre-installed with Sun Java.

Thanks oma for the respose, but now I'm a bit more confused as to what's what .... When I click on the link "Posted by Mark Trent" from my previous post to DL JavaRa it shows the DL as 35.7kb my BAD :-o ... I thought it was 35.7mb ...

so I dl JavaRa and the exe. is actually 203kb's .....

I thought JavaRa was an all in one tool (DL) clean and install ... my apologies to all!

Check your email. I moved your post to a thread of it's own for the reasons given in the email. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=176107

This is now duplicating posts which can be confusing. Also this is a sticky thread and meant for information for all, not troubleshooting :)
