You could always click on the link to see if Win98 is included. Sometimes it might be, but since it's been darn near ten years since MS stopped supporting it, I can't imagine why.

    Hey Mike.:)

First of all, when you log in tic the "remember me" box and the system won't log you out during periods of inactivity. That way you won't lose a post you've been working on.

As Halo suggested in your thread in the software forum, I would just switch over to SpyBot Search & Destroy. It is, IMO a much better app in that it's more thorough than AdAware.

I'm going to check in with the site owners to see if we should look at the possibility of A.) Modifying our explanation of Win All or B.) Start updating how they are listed.

For the time being, at least until I know for sure what direction we are going with this, please do reply in this thread if you have other apps. that say Win All that will not install or run on Win98.

I hope this helps & thanks!:)

There is no way to test all operating systems.
We usually repeat what the manufacturer says.
Most operating systems before Windows 2000 are not supported anymore and should not be run.
Win all simply means it should run on all Windows versions.

Mike, if you don't want to tick the "remember me" box and spend a lot of time composing a message, just right click, select all, Ctrl+C (copies it to the clipboard), sign in again and then open reply and CTRL+V (paste). Your reply will appear exactly the way you posted before. Guess you already knew this though.

    WOW !!..lol..

i got lots of people replying to my thing here...

    THANKS all you Major geeks..

    ABBY...check the Tic.got ya!!;)
    spybot..willl do...
yeah the only reason why i even said all this about the WIN ALL thing
was cause i notice some of the other things say like
    (2000/XP/Vista)
and some even just say (Win98)
can you see why i pointed this out..
and if i find more then i'll let ya know..
    anyways...
thanks for your hard work you do here for everyone Abby..

    Major Attitude...

yeah repeating what the manufactor says..
i guess it depends who makes it...like you say..
for some people win all means...ALL..lol..
and for some people it means only OS still supported by Microsoft..
so in 2 years will WIN ALL mean only Vista?
    10 years and out right?
its funny cause most people dont need a Super computer
that runs on a OS that needs a
    5 million Tara-bit Octa- processor
    with 5 google-plex's of memory
and 80-infinities of hard drive space

just to type in a fourm and chat and surf the net..

    got ya Major...
it just depends..better to check for your self..
and not take anything for granite..

thanks buddy for all the work you do making this KICK'n cool web site..
thanks for all you do Major that helps so many people...
your pretty cool dude in my book !!!

    OMA...
    selet all copy....and save...GOT YA!!..
i'll just open up Word Pad and keep it open from now on when i use a fourm..
    THANKS FOR THE TIP !!!..

THANKS ALL YOU Major geeks for the pointers and help..
    you guys are cool!!!..
    THANKS

Hey, AS! Nice to see you, too! I'm often here, just lurking a lot. :)

Most people, particularly those frequenting tech forums, do much more than type in a forum and chat and surf the net on their computers.

I was running Win98 on my last laptop, but it was stolen so now I've got one with WinXP. My desktop runs Win2K. I've been smart enough for years to know that a program that comes out more than ten years after the OS I'm using was created probably won't run on it. ;)

    Hi Mike

Just picking up on a few things from your post to try and answer.

As the move from the 9x versions of Windows started for the masses in XP, back in 2001, many of the 9x versions of applications worked OK in both 9x and XP (some in XP only after updates to account for the new OS), this worked well for a few years.. hence many application developers said their apps where "Win All", as we are now 7yrs on and last major OS release for Windows was Vista, which in itself brought along new challenges for software developers.

Due to the age and unsupported 9x versions of Windows and a push into new technologies and 64bit, many developers of applications like Ad-Aware which you mentioned are now aiming their development of applications for the likes of XP/Vista and next year windows 7, so sadly they will not be actively developing for 9x, over time more and more applications that work with the likes of Windows 98 now will in newer versions cease to work.

Overall power of todays PCs is not really 100% of the issue of some applications not supporting the older Windows versions, its more to do with the Operating System itself in that the core kernel of the OS has changed as well as many security components, this was evident to many really reciently, hightened more so by the very fact that computers and the internet is more readily available than it was to more people than it was back in 2000/2001 when the jump from Windows 98SE/ME to XP had its own compatability issues, now with the jump from XP to Vista the compatability issues where felt much harder as the computer user community is much larger and in many cases users now had not been through a jump from one OS to another.

With the amount of applications Majorgeeks lists for download its a huge job to change all the descriptions, but I do know MA is doing this as and when he gets a chance to adjust the supported OSes, hence as you noticed some only state XP/2003/Vista etc

You are correct also as this will change around this time next year when the next Windows version is due to be released, most software that work with Vista and XP should work with it but some may not, this will continue over time with each new OS release the ones 3 or 4 generations back will be dropped from developers active list and will likely not be compatible with those older generations.
