    Good morning Bazza!

Your statement about this forum dying is a bit extreme don't you think? The purpose of this forum is that so people can share/discuss various collections/interests. To lump everything into one thread defeats the purpose of having a dedicated forum.

People don't want to, nor have the time in most cases to go through multiple pages in a thread in the hopes that they may stumble upon a collection they are actually interested in and/or participate in a discussion about said collectible. It's very difficult, bordering on impossible to carry on a discussion when it's so fragmented within a single thread.

If you choose to list various collections you have all within a single thread, you are more than welcome to do so. For others, it would be best to start their own thread which would not only encourage others to follow suit, but would also result in more replies.:)

It is worse than pulling teeth to get others to contribute, in either way.

The thing is, most people don't make it to post #43, me included. And, as your post #43 followed all of your previous posts telling people to post in this thread we're at a cross roads here....Essentially, long drawn out threads may get a view of the first/last post just to see what's up but the rest of it, unless it contains a specific topic they are genuinly interested in they never do more than click on it and then leave.

The rest of my reply has been sent to you via PM.:)

    Start of rant.

In the last 8 days there have been 917 reads in this Collectors Forum, in 7 threads.

In this thread, I originated, there have been 417 reads.
The number of posts in my thread have risen from 17 to 50 (33) over the 8 days.

Going through the 33 posts, 25 have been my posts. 8 from OP.
Of the 25 of mine, in the`last 8 days, only 4, YES 4, could be construed as attempting to pad my post count.

I prefer to think of it as showing how popular this Forum has become (and that was my intention) and to try to stir OP into action.

Please reduce my post count by 4 if you see fit.

If it wasn't for posts about Wine (from MA and others), MA's arcade, and my thread, then this Collector's Forum would be dead, or dying.

As for those anonymous members accusing me of padding my post count, read this rant again and have the guts to post so here, in this Forum or in my thread.

It is much easier to snipe in the background than to put up.

    End of rant.

bazza, it's like I told you in my first post in this thread.

The ENTIRE forum is devoted to collections.

People like to go into a forum and find the individual threads that they are interested in. If you have tons of different things lumped into one thread, you aren't going to have many people contributing, as I believe you've found out.

For example, you brought up MA's wine thread. There are obviously a number of people interested in wine so they have contributed to that thread (me included). If the wine had been mentioned in a long generic thread with others collections, chances are, I wouldn't have seen it to contribute.

As Abby said, people don't like to sift through long threads.

It makes for much better discussion if you can discuss one thing per thread.

That is Abby's point, I believe, which is the same point I made to you in my first post in this thread.

    *sigh*

Why, oh why did you have to not only take what was said out of context, but bring it here when it was better left private? I tried to give you an example of comments that have been made in order to help you understand some of the reasons for lack of replies when you ask for them.

I initially tried to bring this to your attention, as is often done by replying in a thread and dong so tactfully and/or in a way to get a member to 'see' what the problem might be. That didn't work.

No one is sniping or hiding however there are those that are irritated. Irritation is a normal occurrence on any forum, just as in real life. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with it. I attempted to express to you some of the comments that have been made and not, as I clearly said to tick you off, but to help you. And for the record. Any complaints, irritations, frustrations, etc. that are brought up are handled privately as it has no business in the forum. Period.

Constructive criticism is also a part of life and forums. We all make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. My mistake here was obviously thinking you and I could get some decent dialog going and in doing so, help you to see that many people are tired of clicking on a thread only to see another post from you essentially begging people to post in your thread or you just linking to another one of your threads. In other words, a senseless post.

If you have any more to say on this please PM me b/c as I said, this has no place in the forum.

    Thank you.:)

I've waited 9 days for OP to open a separate thread here, in the Collectors Forum. They haven't, so I'll continue mine.

One of the best novels about the Vietnam War is The 13th Valley by John M. Del Vecchio. In paperback, 606 pp, it has become a Collectors item in its own right and is scarce to find in secondhand shops, markets, etc. A great read. See thumbnails. Bazza

    Now to continue.
How many of you have personally signed items from famous musicians, sports people like golfers, boxers, basketballers, etc.

One of the favourites in my collection is a signed copy of the insert in the "Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs" CD entitled " THE BEST & THE REST OF LOCK UP YOUR MOTHERS"

I think might be a bit rare as it is not mentioned in the Wikipedia entry for Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs.

For non-Aussies, Billy Thorpe was one of Australia's greatest rockers.
His life story is in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Thorpe
    His group is in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Thorpe_&_The_Aztecs

I was fortunate enough to get his autograph in October 2003.

He died in Feb 2007. :cry :(

The CD features 4 of his best ever tracks, IMO.

CC Rider recorded live at Sunbury Festival, 1972
Be Bop a Lula, recorded live also at Sunbury Festival, 1972
Ooh Poo Pah Doo, live at the Myer Music Bowl. This is the best audience participation track that I have ever heard and is one of my all-time favourite tracks. If you try to find it, make sure it is the recorded live at the Myer Music Bowl version. It runs for 11.22 minutes of frantic audience partipation.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow, recorded live at Sunbury Festival, 1973.

I realise that there are other versions of these songs by the same artist, and other atrists, but if you can get the CD, or downloads tracks from it, you will be blown away by his renditions.

I think so. I haven't heard the track, or seen the video before.

I think it might be called Children Of The Sun Video and Lyrics at http://www.uulyrics.com/music/billy-thorpe/song-children-of-the-sun/

Children Of The Sun Video: Billy Thorpe - Children Of The Sun
song performed by Billy Thorpe in the album Children of the Sun.

Is this the same as your YouTube video, Fred?

Re: Australian 2004 $1 Selectively Gold Plated Silver Kangaroo.

MA, and others, may prefer to get their gold by prospecting. :-D
Me, I find it's a lot easier to buy it. :)

I purchased the (Australian) 2004 $1 Selectively Gold Plated Silver Kangaroo not long after the Official release. #01762 of a release of 12,500. It is really a beautiful coin. 99.9% ( 1 ounce) Fine Silver. The Gold selective plating is also 99.9%. Diameter is 40 mm, about 1.6".

I found the thumbnail, attached, from an Aussie competitor to eBay.com.au, at http://www.oztion.com.au/buy/auction.aspx?itemid=6404211

Photos do not do the coin justice. The Kangaroo is fully gold plated. It does not show up properly in the thumbnail. It has roughly doubled in value since its release in 2004. Bazza

PS: Scroll right down to the bottom of the auction page for other examples of Aussie Collector coins for Sale

Even an iPod can be a Collector's item.

Around 4-5 months ago I was after an iPod to store my smallish CD collection on. I figured that a 20 gigabyte model iPod would be plenty. The smallest current (new) iPod, at the time, was 80gigs. Miles too big for me. So I thought I would be smart and buy a secondhand iPod via eBay.

To cut a long story shorter, I bid on many 20-30 gig models and was always outbid.

I did come across these collectables, though.

Limited Edition (by Apple) of 20 gig iPods signed by the members of the U2 music group. If you check out the thumbnails you will see Special Edition and "U2" on the back of the iPod and the signatures of the group.

I don't know how many Apple made, but these would be a nice Collector's item for U2 fans.

Re: Another Vietnam Book -- Great Photos, great story

The book is entitled "Requiem". 336 pages. Around 1" thick, 25-30mm.
A coffee table sized book dedicated to the 135 photographers who died, or vanished, in the Vietnam War. All photos are chosen from those that died or vanished, hence the title. :cry

The book covers the period from the 1950's to the finish of the war. The photos start with the French battling the Viets in the 50's, onwards.

The book, being bigger than A4 in size, it is difficult to scan photos so bear with me.

3 thumbnails are of the slip cover of the book with the Title. Second is of a Leica camera with abullet hole through it. Third thumbnail is a portion of the most fantastic photo of a plane destroyed in mid-air.

ISBN is 0-224-05058-3 Published in 1997. I have the reprinted version of 1998. Original UK price was £40.

Re: Floppy diskettes as Collector's items. :)

I can hear the laughter now, in OZ, from the UK and USA members across the oceans. Think about it, though. When was the last time you installed a program from a 3½" Floppy diskette?
When was the last time you even used a 3½" diskette to backup a file?
The "Save" icon is a 3½" diskette icon. Lots of recent PC users have never associated this icon with Floppy diskettes.
Is your PC even equipped with a Floppy drive? Most PC's, especially laptops, come without a Floppy drive.

When was the last time you even saw a 5.25" Floppy diskette, or Floppy drive, much less used one? For the really old long-time PC users out there, did you ever use an 8" Floppy disk / drive.
IIRC the old Tandy Radio Shack Model 11, circa 1985, came with 2 x 8" disk drives, stacked vertically.

Did you know about the LS-120 (120 meg) Floppy drive? Circa 1999, I had one fitted to my Gateway Solo 9300 laptop. USB memory sticks soon confined the LS-120 to museum status.

Thumbnail is the Program 5.25" diskette, #1 of 3, for Le Print. A command based Desktop program for publishing High Quality Text and Graphics.
The whole program was run from a Notepad editor, using command.com type instructions. Their whole User Manual v3.0 was written using their program. I used it for years.

Next is a LS-120 Floppy diskette (note the different shaped sliding metal bit.
Finally, a MIcrosoft SETUP diskette for Windows 95. :)

Nowadays "they" may need DVD's to install games.

Hope it brings back some memories to long-time PC users.
