Really slow computer

    I have a HP Pavillion computer with 512mb of memory. I have to delete my temp files every day. I go to Internet Options and delete Temp Files, Cookies and History. The I go to Search, enter C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER\LOCALS~1\TEMP\ and empty anything left over. For a double check I go to %temp% and see if there is anything I need now to delete. I then go to Recycle Bin and empty that. I delete all the trarsh in my emails and after all that the computer is still slow. In my Start UP I have 8 items and maybe I don't need those. What program are needed in Start Up. Maybe that is where my problem is. I'm confused at this point. thumudom

    If you think this is a malware problem other than just having too little ram installed, then:

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.


    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    TimW, I opened the site and it gave me a list of 300+ items to delete if they showed up in my Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. I found one item which I deleted. You asked for a log, where do I find the log? thumudom

    You will have logs to attach after doing the rest of the Read and Run instructions:
    SAS --> superanti-spyware log
    MBAM --> MalwareBytes log
    ComboFix
    C:\MGLogs.zip ---> from running the C:\MGTools.exe

    TimW, I've been way for a couple of weeks. When I got back I had problems with the end result of a restore. I guess my next move is to buy more ram space and avoid the problems. My computer is old and my next move is to buy a new on and give this one to the grandkids to us for school work. I have a fear of going into the Safe Mode. I appreciate all that you have done for me.

    If you did a simple restore, then the problems still exist. I would advise to get the system clean or do a complete reformat and new install before giving the system to the kids,
