All software has issues and at times you "could" be jumping out of fine into another fire! majority of zero day vunerabilities are mostly "could be" affected ones in certain circumstances, most are not exploited, but care is always needed.

Popular software will always be targeted and Microsofts software is that such software, not to let Microsoft off the hook as they need to get a grip of vunerabilities and secure up IE especially, and need to do this before release of IE8. However while many here will know how to setup a browser and in that Firefox, many will not and think from misguided information think that they are perfectly safe from malware if they run Firefox or Opera, sadly that is not true, only need to review alot of users in our malware forum who mention I run Firefox and I still have malware!

Still need to keep current AV, OS and careful browsing of known sites who are likely to have webmasters who keep them locked up tight.

Another small little know tidbit is that majority of servers that host these infected websites are Linux, again due to the misguided notion that its 100% safe, botnets are rife on Linux servers as they oughweigh Window Server boxes so the malware writers go after that system, so in a strange way Linux servers are the ones infecting the Windows home PCs.

Mozilla and Firefox had a corker of a vunerability in which bank details could be stolen a few weeks ago so likely update was to fix that, as mentioned all browsers have flaws and as Firefox becomes a common browser it WILL gain more exploits, open source software is as its name suggests open to all so code is available to review, where as more effort is needed with closed source code, but thats where the money is at present for malware writers.

One of the Sophos anti virus guys said it well today in an interview....

As for the IE exploit the patch is available now via WU, so run Windows Update for KB960714 to be installed, manual update will like follow soon.
