    Hello to all,

I need help finding a download site or where to purchase Word Perfect 6.0 for Windows XP, I had a complete factory restore down on my computer, "actually twice" the hard drive crashed when first purchased "they used my restore disc to do it and messed it up so I couldn't use it again to another restore on it."
I sent it to be restored to Computer Surgeons and they told me the restore disc they used did not have the Word Perfect 6.0 on it.
I contacted HP and they couldn't help me as to where to download the program, so I need some good ole fashion help with this problem.

    Many Thanks

Just curious, what's so special about version 6.0?

Googled some and could only find bad websites to download Wordperfect 6 for free. Didn't find any good websites to download this version for free or purchase. So no dice here. Perhaps someone else can find it?

Perhaps you might be willing to try out Open Office? It's free. http://www.majorgeeks.com/OpenOffice.org_For_Windows_d3461.html

    corel website

Word perfect 6 is no longer available they have gone through numerous numbers versions since 6 and are now up to 4x. Most office suites can be saved in which ever format you need. It sounds like you have data saved under wordperfect 6 and you need it to open it. I know MS Word can read word docs. I'm not sure about open office but it sounds like it can. I gave you a link to Corels website they are the makers of word perfect, maybe if you contact them directly they can get you to the right location on how to obtain old software. You may also check sites like Ebay maybe someone has the old version for sale, if you do not want to make the upgrade to Word, Open Office, or Wordperfect 4x.

    Hi darkzorb,

We we have tried to type and print documents on all the others and can't get anywhere with it, our gransons in Teakwondo and he has to write and print out essays for it. I guess we're use to it opening up and just typing what we want to.
I'm not that great with computers, only had one for about 5 yrs. so the Word Perfect was great, we just clicked on it and done what we wanted to do, the other stuff I've down loaded I can't get it to even open to type on. Or I'm just doing something wrong, We have Microsoft Office Powerpoint viewer and Microsoft Office Word Viewer, it opens but we can't type on it. Got any ideas to what I'm doing wrong or what I need to download to get it to do what the Word Perfect did by just clicking on it, it opened and we typed away and printed.
    Thanks
    Any help is greatly appericated.

    Hello Oma,
Thank You, I've got a question, I have the Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer and the Microsoft Office Word Viewer both 2003 versions, how do you open it up so you can type and then print documents on. I get it opened, but can't type a thing in the document page.
The Word Perfect just opened we typed what we needed to and then printed. What am I doing wrong, do I need to download something.
I've only had this computer for about 5 yrs, everything was already installed, never had one before this one, so it's fairly new to me.
    But I'm lost here.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks

    Hi buggabear,
    Thank You,
What's so good about the Word Perfect was we could click on it, it opened and we could type what we needed to then just print it, I have Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer 2003 and Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003 installed, but I can get the page up to type things on, but it won't let me type. I've never had a computer before this one, it came with everything installed on it, had it about 5 yrs. so this is all kinda new to me, not to computer savoy here.
All I want is to be able to click on what I want, it to open, type what I want and print it out. Our grandson has essays to do and I can't help him at all with this.
I don't know what to download or what program I need to be able to do what I could do with the Word Perfect.

Many Thanks for your help if you can help me with this Please get back to me.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

The both software programs you mention are VIEWERS only, so one cannot type or create any documents in them. One would have to pay to obtain the full software suite.

Did you download the FREE Open Office to try it out? One can create documents in it and print them. I have Wordperfect 12 which came with computer and have no doubt that Open Office will work just as well as Wordperfect. http://www.majorgeeks.com/OpenOffice.org_For_Windows_d3461.html to download. Click on the author's site if you need to get more info about this software. http://www.openoffice.org/

Pjkessler, what you can do is open the document in viewer or in word once you have it opened, click save as, type a name for your document then use the drop down menu and pick a format which you want it saved as, at that point I would pick word, then click ok. I've tried it on my word perfect and it worked. Then once the document is saved close the document. close the program now click on word , click open find the document you just saved, open it now you should be able to edit the document.

    Hi Again Oma,

Should I add/delete the other 2 Microsoft Office things before I download the suggested Open Office program, they seem to be useless to me?

Thank You, for your quick reply.

It's up to you whether you want to keep them or not. Perhaps you may want to use them in the future. Personally, I use Power Point viewer when I receive pps files sent by email from family and that's quite often.

I don't know whether one can use these Microsoft software in combination with Open Office. That's for you to find out if you want to try it out or perhaps someone else has the answer? ;)

Hope I'm not too late to help with this one. I have used WordPerfect for years (now v. 12) and love it due to its ease of use. I have also used MS Word and find it more difficult and limiting in terms of opening other docs. For the last two months I have been trying out OpenOffice and find that it is the most like WordPerfect. So, if you don't want to buy WordPerfect outright, try out OpenOffice. It will open your WordPerfect docs with a minummum of fuss and, for the most part, convert them cleanly. Can't say the same for MS Word which needs a utility or two to transfer your WP docs and it doesn't translate bullets, tables very well either. Good luck

Thank You Grandpa Bob, I have OpenOffice on my computer, I had downloaded it from Sun System and have been working some with it, it is almost like WP so I guess you could say "maybe I got it a little under control now" Maybe.

Thank You for you response and help with this, I do so appreciate all the help from all the people that responded and helped me get this problem worked out.

    Again Thank You
