SDRAM running too fast on Dell?

I have never really overclocked more than a slight amount before, because I like to maximize stability, and I often use older boxes that can't always take so much. I didn't mean to overclock this time.

I swapped SDRAM between 2 Dell computers: the Dell Dimension XPS T600 got PC66 sticks (Yes, I know that's incredibly slow:-o) from the Dell OptiPlex G1, which got the PC100 sticks because it's used more. However, both boxes are now running the bus at 100. I get a message on the Dimension's startup something like SDR configuration information missing: 100Mhz assumed. I can't change the bus setting in setup, of course, because Dell's BIOS automatically configures and locks it. Should I be concerned? :confused It works ok, though I think it heats up faster. It would be a lot of work to swap computers instead, so I am trying to evaluate the risks of running PC66 SDRAM at 100 compared to the work of reswapping the RAM and then swapping HDs or just the files or something. Would it hurt anything to run this RAM a third faster long term? I have no idea about timing settings, either. I am downloading memory testers from here to try...

 

It will probably be fine, just run a good ram stability test for a few loops. Overclocking SDram wont make any extra heat, so no worries there.

Here is a decent RAM reliability test....It has found problems for me before when overclocking past the RAM's highest limit

First, clarifications: I found the faster heating was caused by something else. Also, it is half faster, not a third. (Although setting fsb to 66Mhz would make it 2/3 as fast.)

I downloaded a couple tests, but then found that only one stick was actually PC66, so I replaced it with a PC100 before finishing the first test. It was fun to overclock for a while. Thanks again for the help. I learned a lot.
