Video showing psycadelic colours - no video

Why is it that when i download some video clips (mainly films etc) i cannot actually view them and other times I can. All i get on screen is lots of twisting
and spinning psycadelic colours. I can however hear it.

I have no problem with music files they play ok.

 

You are missing the codecs that the troublesome films use. Get something like K-lite if you are using XP. Just install it and you should be good for any video.

Using VLC player is another option. It has many codecs built-in. So it will play movies that Windows Media Player cannot.

I prefer installing K-lite because then the codecs are available system wide and are available for movie editing, should you ever need them.
