External hard drive cloning ?

Does anyone know of a software utility that will allow me to clone one external hard drive to anther external hard drive?

Interesting plodr. If it does not work, I apologize ross. It is a free program that supports USB drives. Are you willing to test it ross? I only have one USB external drive right now or I would test it myself.

No offense at all to you plodr. Just wondering if that is a clone issue or a boot from USB device issue. Would like to know for my own curiosity. I will have to hunt around for another USB enclosure! :major

 

Cant you use the HDD manufactures free Utility?

The built in send to should do the job.

Click start then open the external HD you want to clone in the tool bar click örganise' then in the drop down "select all"they should then all turn blue, right click anywhere on the list and from the drop down select "send to"and it will offer all the drives just choose the drive you want to send the files too and press ënter"it will then do the job.

 

Are you sure... This will make a clone of the hard drive?
So if I do this to the C drive to a 2nd HD, I will be able to
put the 2nd HD in place of the C HD and it will boot up.

OK let me restate my exp... If I take a C drive out of a 2nd PC and and make it one of two external HD and do as BILLMCC66 stated and then put the other
HD back into the 2nd PC. Will it come up looking like the C drive that I pulled out?

I'm not 100% sure you can clone an external but I dont see why you couldnt, no harm in trying either the utility will see the HDD or it wont, if it see's it it will clone it if the proper steps are taken...:major
Another option make the external internal:-D

WD has Data Lifeguard Tools ( includes setup utility for cloning bootable HDD's)
Maxtor was Maxblast
Seagate is SeaTools
All work much the same and can be used with different brands of HDDs as long as one HDD is of the software/HDD manufactures brand
All are free download, if you purchased a retail HDD the software comes on CD with the HDD....
