That was the slogan when Franklin Delano Roosvelt became president in 1945

Once again we have a President to give us hope.
God Bless and keep Barack Obama, God Bless America, God Bless the World

I like him and am all for new hope. What people need to do is realize that they must help themselves too. Obama is not going to 'make it all better.' Anyone who thinks that is nuts. Bush was not the cause of all of our woes (he wasn't good, if you ask me, but he was not the reason for all that is going on) nor will Obama be the answer.

What this was was a historic event in the right direction. As far as politics...we shall see what he can accomplish. I myself am hoping a lot for the sake of the well being of our country, but I don't think it's going to be nearly what a lot of people think.

Not a quick fix by any means. It's like a jig saw puzzle consisting of a billion pieces.
For one the American allowed too much without disclosure.
We need to be the watchdogs also.

lol...so far it's not all that 'hot' or controversial a topic.;)

There are at least a few threads in the hot topics forum if people want to express views that are differing, that's for sure.:-D

I just see this as a thread celebrating your new president and an historic moment, that's all. I've been watching this all day.:)

The whole inauguration really was something special. All those people that came just to see him...pretty unbelievable. My sister lives there. lol..she actually watched on TV. She said there was no way she was going out there.LOL

One thing that is indisputable, Obama is a master speaker. It'll be nice to be able to listen to my president and not cringe as he talks.

I watched all day, too. Honestly, this was the first one I had ever gotten to see. I was working for every other one.
Today is historic, and for one day, I hope everyone can come together. I heard someone say, this is a beginning, but a long road ahead.

Me too augie, been tearing all day. Someone asked Mrs. Obama if she was worried that he would be a target, she said she had always worried everytime he left the house. Real brave people it takes to know what could be but do it anyway.

Isn't he just awesome :-D He's actually one of the few politicians I enjoy listening to when they speak,in fact I can't think of another ATM.

Wow though its really happened, the Dems have won the election by a landslide and the President of the united states is an intelligent black guy,I'll hold my hands up say I was convinced this would never happen,I was almost positive somehow by fair means or foul the machine wouldn't let Obama become President.

I'm just so glad I was wrong..

Darlene: I'm not quite so impressed with him doing it. Soldiers do the same everyday, and without benefit of thousands of individuals screening every person for potential threats.

Rikky: Let's hold off on the intelligent for a bit. Lots of people must have thought the same about the previous administration. ;)

lol...there is no disputing he is extremely intelligent. His history speaks to that no matter what you think of his politics. Being an effective and good leader is another issue all together.;) We shall see if he can use his intelligence to do some good things for our country.

No wonder everyone was so Happy ;)

When I woke up this morning, the economy was still bad, there was still a war in Iraq, and I'm still over-weight. WTF!?!?!? Obama was supposed to make it all better and it's still not perfect! Dammit I should have voted for Mccain!

Oh wait, I can't vote. Never mind. LOL

Yeah, it was historical. The next four years are what will be important. Big difference.

Good thing your not in Calif E, our Gov is upping the tax on wine 28 cents. Will put a number of wineries out of business here.
Well he got all he could from education I guess rolleyes

I sort of doubt that Ah'nold did that singlehandedly. I'm sure that the Calif. legislature passed any tax increase that Schwarzenegger eventually signed. Maybe he doesn't drink wine? An Austrian bier man? :p

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist"

I loved that part of his speech

"the question we ask today is not whether are government is too big or too small but whether it works"

I hope so, it's about time ya'll paid your fair share instead of putting off the burden on to your great great grandkids who won't have a natural resource left to use because of current wanton consumption. (the world is included here). I am sick and tired of the GOP mantra of cutting taxes and smaller government when they themselves are guilty of increasing same said government size and spending! Give me a break man!

Balance the damned budget and tighten your belts as this ride is going to be bad. I believe Germany was the last to print so much money to pay for deficit spending where the mark became basically worthless.

Look at the big picture please.:)

And why not? Tax the addictive substances, it's a sure-fire way to ensure some governmental revenue. We all know smokers are not going to quit over a tax hike. They'll complain about it, to no end, but it's a drug, they are addicted, and in the end they will pay. Guaranteed revenue is good revenue.

If we want the government to fund the army and schools, then we need to accept that the government needs to collect taxes. We can't have it both ways. That said, any American citizen who thinks that they are paying high taxes is proof of the failings of the US education system. Look at what some European countries' tax rates are, and stop whining.

My apologies about the comments on the GOP, I don't give a friggin care who does it. You guys are killing us and much of the world. It just so happens that the last two biggest deficits ever were by Reagan trying to spend the commies into the ground and the last admins and probably BO will make yet another new deficit record trying to get out of this mess! We are all going to hurt.:( As always, the poor will bear the brunt of it.

Ya, I just realized the thread tile here. I'm out.:)

It's the old problem "when the USA sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold"
So many countries have to use the dollar when dealing with international payment that any problems in the US are felt world wide.

Let's hope that BO is as good as his word and get the economy under control.

Its not a tax cut if we are just sending the debt to the next generation, its a buck pass. We cant be greedy now, of all times.
